Mission: The Simple Good is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to connect the meaning of good from around the world to empower at-risk youth to become positive activists through art and discussion. Through mindfulness and social emotional learning (SEL) based art programming and public art projects, our mission is to transcend the message that no matter where you go in the world, good means the same to all of us and that is what connects us as human beings. TSG integrates a global dialogue into an 8 week youth art program which increases competency on different perspectives of ‘good’ from around the world. Through this dialogue students are able to connect global perspectives with their own experiences which enables them to develop empathy toward others and awareness of a world beyond their own. In addition, students are provided tools through mindfulness and social emotional learning activities to create resilience toward their own adversity in order to channel it toward positive activism. The program ends with experiential learning where we take students outside of their communities to showcase their art and a larger platform to present on their meaning of ‘the simple good’ and voice their ideas of positive change for their community. This unique opportunity allows students to interact with individuals from within and outside of their communities and connect under a dialogue of goodness.
