Mission: To help adults, adolescents and children affected by psychiatric illnesses, emotional problems and addictions by providing person-centered, recovery-focused treatment and supportive services within a community setting.
Programs: Adult mental health and substance use - the providence center provided a broad continuum of person-centered, recovery-focused mental health and substance use services for adults to over 11,200 individuals in fiscal year 2017 that range from outpatient counseling services to intensive outpatient and partial hospital programs to residential placements. All services address the co-occurring mental health and substance use needs of clients. A range of intensive community-based services for individuals with serious mental illness stabilizes their conditions; reduces symptoms; helps them to locate safe, affordable housing; develop independent living skills; secure and maintain meaningful employment; identify education opportunities; and participate in community, therapeutic, social and recreational activities. Group homes offer residential services for adults with severe and persistent mental illness who need 24-hour supervision and assistance to perform daily living skills. Health home teams across rhode island provide coordination of all aspects of care, including psychiatry, primary care, specialty care, medication, hospital discharge and wellness needs. Emergency services and crisis care are provided on-site, in the community and at care new england hospitals 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The crisis stabilization unit provides specialized care 24/7 to patients experiencing an acute psychiatric and/or substance use crisis. Homeless services provide homeless individuals, including specialized services for veterans, in rhode island with permanent supported housing, mental health treatment, substance use and medical services and other community supports. Recovery services in outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient, partial hospital, and residential settings focus on providing the client with treatment and access to supports necessary to maintain successful recovery. Residential treatment programs like roads to recovery provide stabilization, individual and group treatment, education and connections to the after care services essential for long-term recovery. Sober housing offers community living and supportive services to people in the early stages of recovery who are homeless and have serious problems related to substance use. Women-specific, and culturally specific services for the latino and southeast asian communities, are also available. Anchor recovery community centers offer peer-to-peer support, activities and groups to help overcome barriers and maintain recovery. Substance use treatment services are also provided for inmates at the rhode island department of corrections. The recovery navigation program provides intoxicated people a safe and supportive place to stabilize. Integrated primary and behavioral health care combines access to primary care, mental health and substance use treatment services - including an on-site health clinic, wellness and nutrition programs, medical nurses on community support teams, and behavioral health consultants in a primary care clinic - with the goal of helping clients reach optimal health. Providence community health centers operates a clinic on-site at the providence center, and the providence center runs an outpatient behavioral health clinic at providence community health centers' location at prairie avenue.
children and families - the providence center provided a broad continuum of child and family-centered services for over 2,500 children, adolescents and their families in fiscal year 2017. Individual, group and family counseling for all ages are available during the day and evening. The early childhood institute helps preschool children who have behavioral, social or emotional difficulties and/or delays to meet their individual developmental and psychological needs. Inclusive preschool and pre-kindergarten are also offered at imagine preschool. Partial hospital and intensive outpatient programs assist adolescents and teens in coping with emotional and behavioral issues, thereby avoiding hospitalization, placement out of homes or schools and serious problems in their social and family relationships. The providence center school offers a unique learning environment for children in grades pre-k through 12, who are experiencing acute behavioral and emotional symptoms, by providing academic advancement and symptom management training in a safe, supportive and structured environment. Anchor learning academy, a recovery high school, provides academic instruction and clinical support to high school students who are in recovery from substance use issues. Programs also address the complex challenges for adolescents who have been court involved, have a history of out-of-home placement and/or exhibit high-risk behavior, while others help troubled teens learn how to live independently. Emergency services are provided on-site and in the community. Partnerships with other local community based providers facilitate the connection to comprehensive services for families in need. The school counseling and support program is a private-public partnership between providence schools and the providence center that puts providence center clinicians in seven elementary and middle schools in providence to provide a range of services to students and families at no cost to the district.
