Programs: Residential: the jewish board operates a variety of residential services for both children and adults. Residents include people who struggle with mental health, people with intelellectual/developmental disabilities, children who have been abused or neglected and families who are survivors of domestic violence. Over 2,000 residents are served at any given time.
community services: the jewish board provides a wide range of services in community settings such as clinics, homes, schools, houses of worship and other places. We maintain the largest network of mental health clinics in the state, with almost 50 clinics in neighborhoods through new york city. We strengthen 700 families every year through intensive services in their homes, helping them to prevent foster care placement. We have extensive programs for children 0 - 5 and their families, trying to identify problems early and get kids and families the help they need. We also maintain a comprehensive set of services designed especially for the jewish community, including substance use support, bereavement, counseling and more.
evaluation and education: the jewish board provides clinical training and consultation for service providers both within our agency and in the larger social work and mental health community, as well as for social work interns. We conduct hundreds of training sessions each year, involving thousands of participants. We also track clinical outcomes for the people we serve, helping to ensure that the work we do is effective.
The Jewish board in Elizabeth NJ is a good place to receive assistance. The food pantry was a lifesaver during a crisis several times. The staff is very warm and kind. I hope they stay in the community for many years to come
Becoming a Big Sister through JBFCS was such a rewarding experience. The process was extremely simple and I always felt that my best interests were being taken into consideration when being matched with my little sister. I've had the privilege of being matched with an amazing little sister and JBFCS has opened so many doors for us to ensure we always have a good time when we're together. The organized events are an awesome way to meet other Bigs and Littles and makes you feel like you're part of a community of people who care. I would definitely recommend this organization to anyone looking for a great way to make a difference in a child's life, and feel great about doing it!
I have been involved with JBFCS since 1980 - and there has never been a moment when I haven't been proud of this wonderful organization. JBFCS takes care of the most vulnerable New Yorkers - I can't imagine what our community would be like, were it not for the mental health services JBFCS provides.
The staff performs amazing work each and every day - our clinicians deal with trauma and anxiety day in and day out. I am so proud of all of them.
I have come up the ranks from committee member at one residence to chairing the committee for a group and becoming a Board member of JBFCS. I am in awe of the staff and humbled by their dedication.
I am currently a Volunteer Big Brother. JBFCS has not only helped change the lives of younger children but also mine as a volunteer as well. They help set up various activities for you to spend time having fun with your little around the NYC area. It has had such a positive impact on both of our lives. I plan to not only do this for the 1 year minimum but to continue my friendship with my little for as long as we can. I recommend anyone that wants to change the life of a child in need by spending only a couple of hours a month with them to apply to this amazing program.
My family and I have supported JBFCS for the past five years. We see how important they are to sustaining a safety net for vulnerable New Yorkers from all walks of life.
