Mission: The historymakers inc. (the company) was established as a not-for-profit corporation organized under illinois law to video record through first person narratives the stories of african american historymakers for the sole purpose of developing a publicly accessible video and oral history archive. The historymakers's support comes from individuals, corporate and individual foundations in addition, the historymakers holds various events throughout the year to increase awareness of the goals of the historymakers as well as honor and recognize prominent african americans. As of december 31, 2016 the historymakers archive contains over 2,500 videotaped oral history interviews.
Programs: Digital video oral history archives and interviews: video taped oral history interviews. Each historymakers interview is approximately two hours in length. The program includes the cost of background research, videotaping, editing, transcribing, encoding, digitizing, and archiving each interview. Website: development and maintenance of the historymakers web site that allows users to sample the archive holdings on the internet. Live events: represents the series known as "an evening with", these events are held each year. The events are designed to expose the historymakers to diverse audiences, tell a story of a prominent historymaker, and raise funds.
