Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: The Empowerment Center’s Mission: To create community, opportunities and services based on common experiences, to promote individual and social responsibility, to affirm individual rights and dignity through advocacy, education and the development of healthy environments. The purposes of the Corporation are: • To maintain a vision based on expressed interest by listening and responding to the people we serve; • To provide what is necessary to meet the requests of the people we serve based on the vision and acted through the mission; • To demonstrate and achieve leadership grounded in respect and actuated with integrity, extracted from experience; • To promote healing and wellness as an integrated system for individual and community wellbeing.
Results: Presently 2015: Mount Vernon Center of Economic Empowerment (MVCEE) • Bridging economically disadvantaged and vulnerable people with opportunity, clarity, education/training, and support; • Community of people who lease, visit, or affiliate with 20 East First Street in Mount Vernon or its extensions, who exchange resources, manifest ideas, or help each other build and achieve results; • Moving Vision Into Reality - We help in clarifying ideas and honing ability to help people take their business or life plan to the next level. Healing and Wellness • Promoting Healing and Wellness as an integral part of an effective mental health promotion strategy. • Healing and Wellness is learning to live a balanced and worthwhile life and gaining back hope and belief after a traumatic experience or distressing life event.
Programs: The westchester consumer empowerment center provides the following major services: breakfast and lunch to the hungry, informational resources and problem solving assistance, advocacy for individuals receiving psychiatric services, support-line telephone services for those seeking information or who are currently in crisis, and technical assistance to individuals or groups who want to organize and provide mutual support to one another in local communities around the state of new york.
