Mission: The citizens campaign is dedicated to repairing our democracy from the bottom up by training citizens in no blame politics and evidence-based problem solving. Together, these citizen leaders will be a new force empowered to change the political climate and increase our capacity to meet the nation's challenges.
Programs: The civic trust - putting empowerment training to workcivic trusts are community based, unincorporated associations of citizens interested in making their communities better, but turned off by dysfunctional politics. They work together in a "no blame" environment with the help of a dream team of volunteer experts to find and implement solutions to their cities' most pressing problems. Civic trusts are composed of approximately 24 citizens who have demonstrated proven leadership ability and passion for their cities and are able to make a commitment to serve as a civic trustee for one to three years. Civic trusts are working in several urban areas including the cities of newark, trenton and perth amboy.
power civics - empowering all citizens to participate in government decision-makingpower civics is an adult version of solutions civics empowering citizens to play a problem-solving role in government decision-making. It has been taught in forums, workshops and conferences to thousands of citizens and is available online. Citizens have used their training to advance hundreds of local laws addressing issues in their communities. These include solutions that range from an urban auxiliary police model, which was hailed by new jersey's attorney general for its value in improving police/community relations, to government contracting reforms that are saving millions of dollars. Power civics is now being developed into a college course to be offered at universities nationwide.

In order for this to happen, our children, and especially high school juniors and seniors, many of whom will soon be able to fully exercise their civic power, need to learn about their rights and responsibilities, especially at the hometown level where they have immediate access to leadership opportunities. Solutions civics is a 10 class curriculum component designed for the required junior and senior year high school history/social studies course and includes a hands-on project that teaches students a proven, no-blame problem-solving approach to the issues they decide are important.
