I appreciate SBCC because their work helps to empower everyone they help. The people they work with become their own advocates and learn to speak for themselves and to stand up for their rights. They also learn that there is strength in numbers and you can see it every time they go out for an activity, all in their yellow shirts with a heart that reminds you that compassion is key. I also admire that they work with all areas of the needs in the community, from parenting to youth work, to voting rights, to immigrant rights, to small business, to arts and crafts to nurture the soul. Thank you to all who support SBCC.
Sincerely, Lucia Moreno-Linares, Wilmington Resident
My 17 year old daughter was referred to the doulas at SBCC. They have been so wonderful and supportive and have shared such good information in their childbirth and lactation classes that my daughter has learned so much! The expertise and guidance they provide is valuable beyond measure and they have been encouraging and helpful in every way possible. I am so grateful that we are able to work with them and highly recommend them and everything they do!

I Love SBCC! I could not imagine a better center that services the entire community and all others around. There are so many resources that they provide. Even if there isn't a program for what you are looking for, they will not refuse or reject you. They will still share with you what is the next best option and lead you in the right direction!
Partnering with SBCC this past year has been an amazing experience. Patty has been great to work with and is always looking out for the families she services. We have been able to co-host essential Drive-Thrus for the community and provide relative caregivers with amazing resources.
My wife and I are pregnant with our first baby and SBCC has been an amazing resource! We took free childbirth classes and are now taking free lactation classes. The experience has been amazing so far. We are learning a ton, in a very supportive, positive, non-judgmental environment. We feel so lucky to be a part of this community and are feeling much more prepared for this huge life change that is about to happen. Selene, Beverly, and Tina have all been wonderful and we are looking forward to learning more from Beverly as our Doula. Can’t say enough good things about SBCC!
In 2019 I was pregnant with my son I had diabetes issues domestic violence issues homeless issues among other things SBCC Doula's or there to help support me not only with things that I needed like necessities, but counseling for postpartum care as well. It really helped me through a tough time in my life my Doula was Selene Ketcum she still keeps in contact with our family I really loved all the help and support our family received through SBCC thrive LA Thank you for all of your help and support
SBCC is an amazing nonprofit. Specifically, Beverly is warm, friendly, and a compassionate doula. She takes the time to provide physical resources such as fresh produce and diapers, online resources such as lactation information, and always has a positive attitude. She is very knowledgeable and has helped me with my baby from breast feeding tips to cutting the babies nails to sleep tips. It’s so nice to have a doula with experience and knowledge as this is my first child.
I appreciate sbcc they really helped my family out when we needed it most such a asset to the community and my family .
I want to start by saying this non profit helped me in so many ways. First by the doula program, it was my first pregnancy and didn’t know what to expect going into this journey. For being a first time mom I had so many questions and my doula( Selene ) was there to answer any questions I had it could be anytime of the day and she would answer. During this pandemic it was hard to find things to do with my daughter. Then SBCC had a pww class online on Instagram my daughter learned so much doing this almost every day. Now they offer pww mommy and me classes in person and my daughter loves going in person or as she call is (school). I would say I had a great experience with SBCC and I would recommend this non profit to anyone that can benefit from it.
SBCC is hands down an incredible place that provides so much help to those in need. I have witness multiple acts of kindness for others and multiple for myself and my family as well. We appreciate everything you have done for us and feel grateful knowing others will get the help they need and feel the community live and care like we did.
This company makes sure there community Is looked after. From after school programs, to community outlook they help everyone in their community. they have many programs to help mothers fathers and the children I love this company.
SBCC is an agency that has changed my life through all the programs that they dedicated to the community. It was through the help of SBCC that I was able to enroll in a Community College and later to a CSU. Through the group Urban Teacher Fellowship at SBCC I was able to gather my classes needed to obtain my Associate Degree. They have also provided me many opportunities to give back to the community I was raised in and empower the youth for change. Some of those opportunities are community peace marches, beautification projects, community parades, internships, and fundraisers. I have the great honor to say that SBCC is like a home away from home.
Being able to serve as a Community Based Doula Intern through SBCC Strength Based Community Change has allowed me to do what I love. I am passionate about all things related to Birth and Postpartum. As a Community Based Doula through SBCC Strength Based Community Change we are able to help birthing parents and their families during one of the most important times in their lives. Having the rescoures and support of SBCC Strength Based Community has been invaluable.
I am beyond thankful that my friend connected me with SBCC. Having support during and after pregnancy has been such an important part of my journey into motherhood. They provide so many resources that I never knew existed and every experience has been a positive one. Thank you Tina & SBCC for all that you do for the community.
SBCC offers many great opportunities for all community residents, of all ages. I believe that the work that SBCC offers is constantly changing, as it adapts to the needs of the community and the areas that they can assist with. I would highly recommend SBCC, as it is a one-stop place for people who may be looking for assistance or to give back to their community.
SBCC has been helping out my granddaughter with tutoring. She has been part of the program since October 2019. When she started tutoring she was very shy. I knew she was very behind in her education. She had difficulties creating sentence, reading, writing and most of all had a hard time understanding math. Eros and Victor along with the interns helped my granddaughter understand Math and English.
In, hard times SBCC has helped my family with the grab and go every day. They helped my family with school supplies for my granddaughter. SBCC has gone above and beyond to motivate my granddaughter, but also to give me advice on how to help her at home. My granddaughter has participated in many events at SBCC. She loves volunteering and creating memories.
