While working with Social Development International (SODEIT) in the past few years, I have had the opportunity to empower young people, teenage mothers and refugees from disadvantaged communities to improve their standard of living by coordinating a series of educational initiatives toward the improvement of basic education and development in low-resourced regions of Cameroon and Sierra Leone. Noticing that COVID-19 has accelerated the trend towards digital transformation in the educational sector, we have also started a research project ‘The Digital Divide: Educational Platforms During and After COVID Crisis’ with the aim of improving educational equity in Cameroon and wider Africa. While analyzing EdTech readiness data in identified countries across 5 pillars of the EdTech Ecosystem and evaluating existing policies and programmes, we have proposed specific policy recommendations regarding educational equity to 2021 United Nations Economic and Social Council High-Level Segment. Overall, SODEIT is an incredible organisation.

SODEIT has a strong research team. Its research centre focuses on the issues and institutions that are critical to global development and its education program focuses on broad welfare goals and seeks to understand the role education can play in addressing inequity. Great job.

As a member of the Health Team, we have established a Remote Healthcare Center that provides free of charge services and testing of COVID-19/TB/HIV to around 2% of population in entire rural community. We developed partnerships with telemedicine health providers in African neighboring country to creating info-packs and medical kits at testing centers and collaborating with the Social Development International's University Team to create healthcare training programs for individuals within the community. My experience at SODEIT is life-changing!

I have been volunteering with SODEIT since May 2020. It is a great opportunity for me to serve these people and to facilitate the social and economic empowerment of the poor and vulnerable inhabitants in communities, enabling their participation in the process of building a more developed, integrated, egalitarian, peaceful, and sustainable nation-state. It was a very good chance to cooperate with volunteers from over the world sharing our experiences, culture and efforts. As I believe you cannot serve other people while your people are in need. Therefore, it was important with me to start serving people in my continent in Africa as I am Egyptian and belong to same continent.

I started volunteering with SODIET development team by the beginning of June 2020 to help Cameron people face Covid-19.
on institutional culture level all my colleges and team leaders are real responsible hard working members how have the teamwork concept and collaboration.
Regarding the Tasks assigned to me it all virtual online work based mainly on deep researching and appropriate online communication with third parties - potential stakeholders.
we have a online meeting every week that last for hour and some few minutes , we recap together the progress and brainstorm possible action then have the next week objectives and tasks assigned.
it's really helpful and pleasure to see your small actions and simple commitment can make a difference and help people to have a better life.

My online volunteering experience with SODEIT so far has been different than I expected it to be. Honestly I didn't even know what to expect since this is my first time. I'm really happy to be a part of such a wonderful global support team that the organisation is developing, concerning the current situation in Cameroon. And I do have to say that this was indeed challenging for me in every way. But I believe that all good things are challenging. I'm honoured to be part of this global project and it has changed me a lot from the start. It has made me feel worthy of myself and that I too can cause a change, however small my action or thoughts are. It has definitely kicked me out of my comfort zone and I will never regret this. Kudos to the whole team for developing this project and giving us an opportunity to get involved.

At first, I thought that this project would be like another volunteering; to help remotely as much as we can with little interactions among members. It turns out so far to be the best volunteering project I've been a part of (even though it has only been two months of working). I love how SODEIT helps its volunteer to work in smaller groups depending on their interest and experiences in different teams. I have never been involved in any Human Resources experience in my whole life, and to be accepted in the HR team was such a huge honor for myself to learn so much more towards gaining professional knowledge.

SODEIT are very welcoming towards their volunteer to be such a huge family. Especially with diverse hundreds of members, volunteers were able to slowly get to know one another, such as from LinkedIn Groups. Moreover, each team is also well bonded. Accurately, on my team, the members communicate well hence making it easier to work on tasks as we share information as much as we can. SODEIT has its way of being flexible with team members living in different countries as we work in an environment with gaps of timezone, which at first I thought would be challenging to work in.

Externally, SODEIT is an NGO that works for a perfect cause. Volunteers work together to raise awareness from around the world to help build a support centre in Cameroon that is considered as a third world country.

I started working at Social Development International, formerly abbreviated as SDI but now SODEIT, for almost three years beginning from December 2005, the time it was founded up till August 2008 when I had to travel overseas to undergo further studies. At the time, I held the position of Partnership and Resource Mobilization Officer (PRMO). During this period, we were highly involved in training some youths on livelihood skills. I was involved in mobilizing, and keeping contacts with potential donors both in Cameroon and abroad. We also provided assistance on education and health to a few parents who could not afford to pay their children's school fees and medical assistance to those whose medical condition had worsened due to the fact that they had no money to pay for medical check up. We also helped some parents pay for their children's public examination fees such as Common Entrance and First School Leaving Certificate, among others.

During my three years at SODEIT, I really did learn a lot about social work and enjoyed my time at the organization. I did enjoy a cordial work relationship with SODEIT founder, Mr. Suliaman Turay, whom I qualify as honest and a man of integrity. I am glad to see that SODEIT has enlarged its wings not only in Cameroon but also in the United States and in other parts of the world.

I have known SODEIT since 2009, when I first took up an UN voluntary assignment with them along with a team from other countries. Though the assignment was not on SODEIT activities, I learnt more about the good work of this organisation. The organisation is working hard in the fields of reproductive health of teenage women and girls, HIV and AIDS, poverty eradication, empowerment of youth and women and a number of other social issues that inflict their society. Being a social Science Researcher in my country (India) I have shown keen interest on these areas, as the issues they covered by them are very close to my heart. Form these humble beginnings, I have been very happy to be associated as an online board member with SDI and voluntarily agreed to help them in develop research papers, Fact sheet on HIV and AIDS and Reproductive Health to create awareness in their society. My association with the organisation has shown that this is a very well run and responsible organisation and Mr. Sulaiman is a very dedicated and hard working gentleman working for the cause. I am looking forward to continue my work with SDI in the future. I recommend anyone who wishes to work on social issues to consider SDI as a good opportunity. I wish them GOOD LUCK

I have known SODEIT for nine years now. I came to know Social Development International in Buea, Cameroon, during when i was writing my thesis in 2011. Though my thesis wasn't about SODEIT activities, but i experienced the good work of this nonprofit Organization with partners from Africa and European countries as well which is still working hard to make sure that the basic needs of less privilege girls in the societies are met. This Organization from my experience has never relent it efforts to help the girl child though with huge challenges of different cultural understandings, yet it break through to help the less privilege children, and youths through education, civil rights and youth empowerment ( or development) programs. I give great thanks to Mr. Suliaman Torey the founder.

My placement with SDI started in March 2013 as the Nutrition Education Officer. I enjoyed teaching at the schools immensely however i did not enjoy working for SDI. I found Mr Turay to be extremely unprofessional and did not give me any support whatsoever while working for his organisation. He was extremely disorganised and did not care about the well being of the community. He never showed interest in any of the programs i was doing and did not attend any of my teaching sessions to see the progress. I don't believe SDI's best interest is to benefit the community and i felt that the manner in which Mr. Turay conducted himself was so appalling i would not advise any volunteer to consider working for his organisation. I was accused of betrayal when given the opportunity to work for another NGO which was more suited to my career and professional skills and was also accused of intentionally using the organisation to get a visa into the country. I was bad mouthed to other volunteers and forced to leave the house i was living in and find alternate accommodation with only 2 days notice. I felt that Mr. Turay was more concerned with collecting money rather than the transparency and sustainability of his organisation or the volunteers involved.

Volunteers/interns who come to support the goals and objectives of the NGO; always have a conducive and secured environment to achieve their mission. SODEIT Cameroon has worked with many experts/volunteers over the years without problems. Any expert/volunteer who is claiming to have had problems with our NGO means that the person wanted to pursue other goals other than the goals of SODEIT Cameroon. Our advice is that, experts/volunteers who come to us should be able to pursue our community based activities with all interest and openness; because this is one area we do not compromise.

I have worked with Social Development International for many years as Volunteer and this organisation has helped many families in Cameroon. SDI and its partners have registered and sponsor many street children in school. The organisation has identified and help old people in rural communities. The organisation has as objective to fight for the vonurable population. I think at the end of every year, with the available resources they devote a lot of energy to assist the the population of Cameroon. Many youths in the regions have gained from its seminars and education programmes and this has brought changes to many people.

Learnt that this charitable organization is working with vulnerable communities that are striving to ensure they have access to basic and essential services such as education, water, health and sanitation to name but a few. It is but befitting if adequate support (financial and moral) are assured to this organization so as to ensure its sustainability in promoting the and transforming the living standards and livelihoods of the rural and marginally excluded communities.

I have been working with SDI for nearly 3 years. It has been a wonderful experience. I have had the opportunity to develop projects, create proposals and learn how to fund-raise for a great cause.

My favorite thing about SDI is its culture. SDI promotes openness, communication, and creativity and everyone's opinion matters as we all have the same goal and motivations. Being surrounding by like-minded people who are interested in serving poor communities and helping them to become self-sustaining is the most rewarding fulfilling feeling.

I have served on the SDI board for over one year now. I was originally involved in this organization as a volunteer, writing a project proposal for one of their initiatives. My experience with SDI and the other board members has shown me that this is a very well run and responsible NGO. Sulaiman is a very hard working and dedicated individual who has done a great job of managing volunteers, board members, and projects. I am looking forward to continuing my work with SDI for many years to come.

Having seen numerous Cameroonian NGOs from the inside now, I have been positively impressed by the functioning of Social Development International, Buea. Summarizing: appears to be trustworthy, open-minded, aware of common problems in society, appears well-organized and, importantly, succesfully working with local volunteers. I am a master's student from the Netherlands, currently undertaking my fieldwork in Cameroon. I have lived in Cameroon for a period of 8 months in 2007, and I have currently been here for 2 months again. I needed some information about this NGO and I was pleasantly received by Mr. Sulaiman Turay, a friendly and knowledgeable Sierra-Leonian. I initially stumbled upon the website, which at first sight is fairly comparable to those of other NGOs I've seen. The organization behind, however, is a different story: the phone number was accurate and was immediately answered; I was informed of a time that I could visit the office the same day that I called (at which time I found someone in the office), and I was given directions as to where to go. Once arrived, Mr. Turay took as much time as I required to tell me about his experiences on the issue of my research (impact of internet use on local youths), and gave me a lot of information about the programs that the organization is currently pursuing. Although I have spent a limited amount of time at the organization and can therefore not fully judge the potential of the organization, I can say that the organization has proven to be a lot better organized than other NGOs that I have worked or spoken with; the organization really has its target group at heart, considering that none of the staff members are paid, and that they even manage to attract local people to volunteer (which I know is a very challenging assignment in Cameroon). Additionally, the man simply knew what he was talking about, and programs seem to be as cost-efficient as possible. To me, Mr. Sulaiman seems to be an excellent networker with ample care for his community. I would recommend anyone who aims to work for a small, simple but likely effective organization to consider SDI in Buea as a good opportunity to engage in capacity building and community-based projects. My impression is that any funding provided to this organization is likely to be used fairly efficiently for the purposes for which it is intended.
