The Skirball Center for Adult Jewish learning honors its commitment to providing high quality learning and building a home for people of all backgrounds and ages who share in Judaism's passion for and enthusiasm for learning, and who search for meaningful Jewish cultural and intellectual experiences. They are the future of a vibrant and substantative Judaism that captures the hearts and minds of jews. They help Judaism re-generate itself through significant and relevant creative expressions. They are unique idea-bassed, offering a very broad menu of topics - giving adults without a background in Judaism the opportunity to engage in learning with leading scholars on Jewish wisdom.
Skirball usually holds a full day symposium on Tisha B'Av - a day that I have a lot of trouble commemorating and finding meaning in as a contemporary Jew. Through learning, study and stimulating classes by some of New York's finest teachers, I was able to connect to this day on the Jewish calendar in a whole new way. Skirball is doing something that very few others in the New York Jewish community are doing - deepening my experience of Jewish life through learning.
