My family has maintained a membership at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum for three years. We frequently visit more than once a month and have found the membership to be a great value. Our play sessions are always fun, engaging, and always last several hours. The Discovery Museum offers a wonderfully well rounded experience that incorporates the arts, sciences, and humanities. The art programming is very diversified and includes daily self guided projects in it's Art in the Making Studio, once a month Visiting Artist guided projects, once a month Discovery Story Theater plays, and summer time art camps. Our community is lucky to have the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum where quality programs and imaginative play contribute to the quality of our children's lives.

My children grew up going to The Discovery Museum. Now they work and volunteer there. I have served on the Board of Directors. The Discovery Museum which offers open art experiences every day in their art room; paper bag puppets are the favorite here. Exhibits in the museum feature art in association with science. Pattern tiles, a poetry wall, and bird relief rubbings are permanent exhibits. There is a new PVC pipe organ for musical experimentation. Art, science, math, and play are everywhere at the Discovery Museum. Kids work together, even when they don't know one another.

The Discovery Museum offers many art and theater experiences throughout the year. On the second weekend of every month they host a Visiting Artist series that engages all ages. The programs vary from poetry to water colors. It is always a unique experience to be able to learn from professional artists in our community. Discovery Story Theater is also a favorite of mine, that is offered on the third Saturday of each month. My husband and I brought my niece to the "Reckless Red and the Little Wolf" play that was a spin off of "The Little Red Riding Hood." The spin was to put the focus on the little gray wolf so that the audience would learn aren't scary creatures that eat people, but have a place in our complex environment. The plays are hilarious, educational, and our niece loved being able to go on stage to help with the play. The Discovery Museum is always offering something new and different for the families in our community. They are a leader in hands-on education, and offer endless hours of play for children of all ages.
