I have volunteered with SBIM for several events and each time, I have really enjoyed working with both Renee Gorman, Founder and Terri Taylor, Executive Director. Not only do they really care about all of the children they help, they actually roll up their sleeves and get out in the community. I have volunteered for other nonprofits and this is the first time where I have actually met the executives. It has been such an honor and pleasure working with SBIM and they make such a difference in our community and all the families that they help!
I have been an active volunteer in support of She Believes In Me (SBIM) for three years now. It has been the most rewarding experience to participate in serving our local families in need of food, emotional support, and physical support. I can't imagine a better way to spend my time during retirement, helping others in need is what it is all about!
She Believes in Me gets involved and stays involved in children’s lives! From elementary through high school they care for children at risk with essentials like food, health, personal care. The way they care for the entire child as well as their families is unique and relationship building. They do events that build up the children from the inside out and help give them a “leg up” as they age and get ready to launch.
SBIM is a wonderful organizations with a true grass roots mission. The service they provide in the Herndon, VA community to families and children is undeniably the most caring, compassionate and effective support that this deserving community needs. The leadership team is communicative, responsive, and they make it very easy to support the initiatives of SBIM!
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to volunteer with She Believes in Me. From day one, I was welcomed into the SBIM family, and the staff and volunteers quickly became my emotional support and close friends. This support helped me integrate into the community and allowed me to make a meaningful impact. It has been a blast being part of a team that not only provides essential support to so many families but also ensures that every child is loved, nourished, and noticed.
One of the most important aspects of SBIM’s work is the Teen Leadership Program. This initiative helps teenagers overcome their challenges, become more resilient, and receive valuable career guidance. I’m proud to be part of such a wonderful organization that is truly making a difference in the lives of so many.
She Believes in Me is a tremendous organization with tremendous leadership, staff, and volunteers. There is an excitement and a commitment to be better for the patrons we serve. SBIM is a true community-based organization and is uniquely poised to serve our Herndon neighbors. I am currently a part of the liaison program and am loving connecting in a meaningful way with those we are serving. I am grateful to be a part of this team in some small way. SBIM is absolutely deserving of any monetary or volunteer support you can give - they will put it to good use!
I have volunteered for She Believes in Me since 2020 and love this organization! For my job I actually run a non-profit so I know how special SBIM is. It has connected me to people in my community that I have loved getting to know. The organization provides vital services to families and kids in my area and has given them a lifeline. SBIM promotes life skills for the kids, mentoring, new experiences (summer camp!), and helps with food insecurity. I have been able to directly see the impact I am making in the lives of kids. And, I love the other volunteers! The leadership is great and incredibly passionate about the mission.
I cannot say enough about this wonderful organization! I have worked as a volunteer since SHE BELIEVES IN ME first started holding events at Hutchison ES to empower young girls at Hutchison ES. The girls, and some boys just loved these events...health care, body imaging, exercise classes, nutrition advice and mentoring are just some of the few things that SBIM offered. The kids just loved coming and loved the extra attention. Then Covid hit. Schools closed. But, did that stop SBIM from caring...NO! They quickly changed and starting delivering food to the most needy familes. They also established a liaison mentoring program so that someone had "eyes on" the children as they were confined to their homes. SBIM never stopped caring about the kiddos and their families. SBIM has made a huge impact on the community and brought smiles to many young faces. I am honored to be part of an organization that is so caring of others.
I started volunteering for She Believes in Me (SBIM) last year and WHAT a difference this organization makes in the lives of young people and their families! The founder has such a clear vision for how to provide much needed emotional support for children, teens and their families in this community. I have seen firsthand how SBIM's life skills events and summer camps positively impact children. I have also attended events where teens provide testimonials about how She Believes in Me, and Renee (founder) have made a profound difference in their lives. Also, I have never seen such a highly engaged and committed volunteer network as SBIM has earned in this community. I feel honored to be a volunteer and Board Member for this organization!
She Believes In Me is an amazing organization making a big difference in the life of many children and families in the Herndon area. I had the privilege of participating in a monthly event where children gather with families at Hutchison Elementary School. The program has activities and games that provide children with community, connection, and engagement. The program is designed to help empower the children with strong confidence, self-worth and identity. She Believes In Me wants to help children find their voice and purpose to make a difference in this world.
She Believes In Me has been a transformative experience for many young girls attending Title I schools in the Herndon area who need additional support. Through dedicated programs conducted by She Believes In Me, these girls not only gain invaluable team-building skills but also develop a newfound confidence in themselves. The opportunities provided by She Believes In Me allows these girls to dream bigger and set goals they may never have thought possible. Many parents have seen their children flourish academically and socially after being involved with all that She Believes In Me offers. I can't thank She Believes In Me enough for their commitment to empowering young girls and shaping future leaders.
The owner is amazing!! She makes everyone she encounters feel welcome. She doesn’t discriminate and makes anyone feel comfortable enough to reach out. She’s a blessing and so are all of her volunteers.
This is an amazing group! I became involved during the early days of the COVID-19 quarantine when I got to experience firsthand their creative pivot from the group's normal mission activities to provide food and support for those in need due to job loss. There was not a road map for what was happening in those early days but the group approached the challenges from a positive "what CAN we do?" perspective and rolled up their sleeves to do whatever it took. I have been a volunteer for multiple organizations and they take the cake in so many ways. First and foremost they truly know, understand, and care about those they are serving and do so many things to demonstrate it. Although they temporarily shifted gears to provide food, they also found ways to weave in elements of their original mission of providing encouragement and support to young school aged children facing difficult circumstances by including notes and activity packs with the food. Their passion makes volunteering very rewarding experience - you see the impacts you are having. Secondly, they are innovative and resourceful. They let people help, they build partnerships with others, and creatively "find a way" vs. other groups I have volunteered with that let challenges thwart their momentum while volunteers experience lots of down time. Additionally, they are genuinely appreciative of their volunteers and express that appreciation continuously. Other organizations I have been with that don't take a moment to acknowledge the time and effort their volunteers are putting in experience lots of turnover, but this group makes it a point to sincerely say thanks and it's heartfelt. Lastly, they are super organized and follow through on everything they say they will do, which makes a big difference. I can't say enough positive things about this organization and the impact they have on both those they serve and their volunteers. They are a role model organization.
