Causes: Human Services, Senior Centers, Seniors
Mission: Provide housing for low income senior citizens, as well as food and supplemental items to families and individuals in need.
Programs: Senior housing - to promote the social, cultural, spiritual, economic, physical and mental well-being of the senior adults of chewelah valley through senior activities and housing. Sunny acres senior housing apartments has 48 units, 44 with usda rural housing rent subsidies.
food bank - to promote the social, cultural, spiritual, economic, physical and mental well being of individuals and families in need, by providing food and supplemental items to members of the community. Approximately 162,000 pounds of food and supplemental items are given out during the year, which includes approximately 175 turkey coupons in november, to an average of 359 individuals and 168 families monthly, through the chewelah food bank. Emergency assistance packets and energy saving kits are also provided to community members, as provided by rural resources. Over 300 volunteer hours are provided by volunteers to run the food bank and the senior center on a monthly basis.
