Mission: Seattle Community Network was started as a project of Computer Professional for Social Responsibility's Seattle Chapter. Conceived in 1992, it went online at the beginning of 1994, with one 386 PC running in the basement of the Seattle Public Library. Our goal was to help bridge the technology gap by giving everyone equal access to the Internet. Since then, we have issued over 17,000 email accounts, created the SCN Web site, hosting more than 150 community groups' Web pages, a variety of maillists, and more. In 1996, the project spun off to become its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit: Seattle Community Network Association. Throughout the years, SCNA has been run entirely by volunteers, with more than 60 currently active, and has been funded almost entirely by the donations of our users.
