Causes: Environment, Recycling
Mission: To engage the citizens of carroll county in taking responsibility for improving our community environment.
Programs: Goal 1: to reduce landfill waste by encouraging environmental stewardhip. 450 donations resulted in greater than 15,450 pounds of creative reuse materials kept out of landfills. Goal 2: to educate the community about the short and long term benefits of the three r's - reduce, reuse, recycle. Posted facts and/or creative reuse ideas ot more than 1,400 social media followers daily; provided programming to more than 1,300 participants at 39 events. Goal 3: to provide free or low cost materials(which have been donated to scrap bin for recycling) to teachers, artists, students, and community members and provide educational resource support for creative reuse of recycled materials. 3,245 customers bought low cost supplies, 578 educators got discounts; and materials were donated to nonprofits. The scrap bin facebook page, twitter feed and pinterest boards, webpage, and staff provided creative reuse/recycle advice and projects daily thoughout the entire year. Goal 4: to provide service learning opportunities for students and volunteers. 395 voluteers gave 1,443 hours. Goal 5: to promote west georgia as an arts friendly, environmentally conscious community. Launced helwig gallery; highlighted customer art on social media and in the shop; conducted art in the park june - july; hosted the second annual collage festival; and provided workshops using local artists.
