Mission: Save our wild salmon's mission is to restore abundant, harvestable runs of salmon to the columbia and snake river basins. Wild salmon and free-flowing rivers are the cornerstone of a healthy environment and vibrant economy in the pacific northwest. The members of sos endorse these five principles: - return to salmon the use of their rivers; protect and restore spawning, rearing and migratory habitat - conserve the genetic heritage and biological diversity of wild salmon populations - restore productive tribal and non-tribal fisheries that allow the rebuilding of wild stocks - restore wild salmon at the least cost to other river users and society as a whole - foster cooperation among all citizens committed to wild salmon recovery
Programs: Policy: research, litigation and advocacy on columbia and snake river salmon recovery. Activities include undertaking and coordinating and evaluating scientific, technical, and economic studies and reports; meetings and communications with agency, congressional, gubernatorial and administration staff. Production of reports examining science and economics in the columbia basin hydro-system.
outreach: education and outreach to the general public about columbia and snake river salmon recovery. Activities include meetings, events, presentations, film screenings, rallies, and information tables. Achievements include dozens of action alerts, grassroots communications to elected leaders, organized participation in public input processes, coordination and engagement of businesses and other organizations in large joint events.
communications: media and communications regarding columbia and snake river salmon recovery. Activities include creating public materials, communicating with regional and national reporters, organizing press events; development and management of three websites, and extensive social media presence. Achievements include significant media coverage, regionally and nationally, increased issue (lower snake river dam removal) visibility, expanding relationships with with reporters (print, online, and television). , development of brochures and factsheets.
