I first adopted from Sadie's Safe Harbor Canine Rescue in 2015 and began volunteering the following year. Throughout the last 9 years, I have fostered 23 dogs and 7 cats, been part of the fundraising team, and I even served as a mentor and leader for a few years. This organization truly cares about their volunteers and the animals they serve. My favorite part about SSHCR is that they are a "best match" rescue. This means that they do not complete pre-approvals or have waiting lists for dogs; rather, they work to match every dog with the best family. The foster families have a significant voice when selecting the home for their foster dog. I think this is paramount as the foster knows the dog best and is able to assess who will (or will not) be the right fit. This process also greatly reduces the rate of dogs being returned to the rescue. SSHCR also prides themselves on saving high-needs dogs, not just the cute puppies who will be adopted quickly. Sadie's has taken in many dogs with extensive medical needs (amputations, parvovirus, shot by arrows/birdshot, and more), and even behavioral needs. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Sadie's and highly recommend them to anyone seeking to add a family member or volunteer their skills!
We have had 3 nice experiences with Sadie’s. All 3 times the foster parents who came to our home with dogs we were interested in guided us through our decision. They checked out our yard and Home and provided us with great suggestions to make the environment safer. When the dog we requested was brought for a home visit and appeared to be a bit too active for us, the foster helped to find us a dog that was more appropriate for our family. We adopted her and she is a perfect fit for our family. The fosters were wonderful. They are knowledgeable and so caring and compassionate. This is a wonderful rescue. Thank heaven for people like these.

I fostered for Sadie's five years ago, but fell in love and "foster failed." Last year my neighbor surrendered a dog, Cooper, to me and I rejoined as a foster. Cooper ended up having highly progressed cancer. Despite his advanced age, Sadie's choose to pay for his very expensive treatment. He has since been adopted and has shown no signs of illness! I was so moved by their dedication that I have reenlisted as a foster and have found myself continuously impressed by their dedication and love for the dogs they bring through, the volunteers they work with, and the families they adopt to. They give every ounce of their love and spare no expense to save every dog they are able, no matter the background or challenging circumstance. I have seen dogs come in who many would consider lost causes who flourish in their new lives with the tender care of their foster families. I highly recommend this organization and am a Sadie's girl for life!
I have adopted two fantastic dogs from Sadie's. I know all of the funds they raise go directly back to helping bring new dogs to their forever homes. The foster family was available for any questions I had well after the adoption and always is excited to hear news about my fur babies. I highly recommend adopting from Sadie's!!

I adopted 2 dogs from Sadie's Safe Harbor. They are a top notch rescue that is 100% honest with adopters. I was impressed with their compassion for the dogs, that I started to foster myself. A great organization where volunteers work hard for each dog that Sadie's brings into rescue. Sadie's is an asset to our WNY community.
