We adopted our Mabel, aka Marcia, last month from The Road Home Animal Project, and had an absolutely flawless, positive experience with Dana and Melanie. The one thing that stands out to me the most about the volunteers at TRHAP is their sincere, authentic LOVE of animals. The adoption process showed how they really take the time to make sure the pet's prospective family is an excellent fit. And Mabel's foster mom, Melanie, took such great care of her prior to the adoption! I was super impressed with the whole process and would highly recommend adopting from this awesome organization!!
I had the most wonderful experience working with Abbey at RHAP. I was looking for a large loving dog for my daughter. My Mom who lived with us had just passed and she was having a really difficult time. Abbey took the time to really understand exactly the type of companion I was looking for my daughter. I also was able to talk with Melanie from is foster family who was absolutely the best. She had great insights to Charlie’s personality and texted several fun pictures of him in their home.
Charlie became part of our family on 8/28/20. We drove 2.5 hours to meet Charlie and his foster family. Within minutes it was evident he was a perfect fit for our family.
Our relationship with RHAP did not end there. Both Abbey and Melanie have kept in touch and are very supportive.
Charlie has given my daughter tons of love and snuggles. We LOVE Charlie very much and are blessed to have him in our family.
We adopted Oakley a little over a month ago from the Road Home Animal Project. It's been three years since our dogs passed and it was time to bring doggie love back into our home. We've never adopted a rescue dog before and were a little unsure of the process. When I saw Oakley's picture though it was love at first sight and I was ready for whatever it took. It took several steps to get to the Meet and Greet but I'm glad each of those steps is in place. This organization took the time to make sure Oakley was a good fit for us and that our family was a good fit for her. I love that all their animals live with foster parents and being able to have conversations with the foster family was invaluable. Thank you Road Home Animal Project!! PS. Even our bearded dragons love having Oakley around.
We found out about the Road Home Animal Project after seeing a story on the news about them doing an adoption drive. My wife and 2 sons were wanting to adopt a puppy and when we saw the website with a particular litter of puppies we were determined to adopt one.
The organization is wonderful to deal with, they have a well balanced application process which we thought was perfect to ensure the animals go to loving homes to be cared for by a home that is suited for them. We have a 9 year old beagle mix and he’s excited to have a younger puppy pal to run in our yard with. Our boys named our Beagle mix that we adopted Henry and he’s so energetic and has a fantastic personality with lots of energy!
We want to thank the entire group at The Road Hone Animal Project for the wonderful work they do for the animals and helping perspective families go through the process and make it as easy as possible. Thank you to Dana and Melanie for being so helpful and I would encourage everyone to consider working with the organization to find homes for these amazing animals!

It was love at first screenshot that I saw of Charlie (previously Boston) and I applied for him immediately. I live in PA which is 5.5 hours away from the rescue, but long story short, they got in touch with me the very next day to say that I was accepted. I was so excited! I spoke to a couple of people (prior and after) and they are so nice and so responsive. Charlie at the time was with a foster family and the foster mom and I immediately hit it off and now friends on Facebook so I can share Charlie’s life since her and her family have grown so attached. You can tell Charlie, his siblings and mom were all well taken care of. Totally worth the drive for our new little pup who filled our hearts with love immediately. Thank you to all involved in Charlie’s first 8 weeks to get him ready for his forever family! We are forever grateful.
My family adopted our puppy from the road home animal project in July after losing our first dog in June. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this organization. The fact that all their animals are fostered was a big plus in my book. Our foster family started crate training and was able to tell us about her personality when we went for the adoption. Dana was so wonderful to work with and answered all my questions I had prior to adopting. I would give this organization 10 starts if it were an option!
My family was looking for a puppy. I had looked at locally as well as within 100 miles from us. I found Road Home Animal Project through Facebook. They had a post of a litter that caught my eye. I was looking for a beagle mix, preferably small size. The “Brady Bunch” puppies were so cute. The application was easy to complete compared to others that I had filled out. I sent messages through Facebook and received a reply quickly. I feel so lucky to have found our dog beanie through the Road Home Animal Project. Everything was easy and everyone was so nice. I would recommend that if you are looking for a pet please look them up.
How do you give up those dogs?
I have been getting so many questions about fostering, so I thought I would start with the one that I get asked the most. Bringing a dog into our home is not something we take lightly. We have two rescues of our own who fill our hearts with love and endless hours of fun and companionship.
Yes, I cry when each sweet dog goes to its new home. Yes, it is hard to see them go. We keep in touch with their new families and it brings us so much joy to see the families and the dogs happy together. To us, crying when a dog leaves our house is easier then crying because no one stepped in to help an animal in need. Just thinking about them dying alone and frightened in a shelter is enough to bring on the waterworks around here.
All four of us are committed to saving these animals one day at a time. They are teaching us lessons daily about patience and compassion. We all needed a lesson in selfless love and fostering keeps teaching this over and over again.
If you have questions about fostering or want to give it a try, there is no better place to start than The Road Home Animal Project. You can check out their facebook page or website.
