My first experience with Respite Care was walking through their doors on my first day as an intern. From the first day I felt like family. Years later I've now moved away and am wishing desperately for something like Respite Care in my new home in California. There's nothing like it anywhere else!!
The volunteers and community support are what make Respite the thriving, loving, engaging, accepting community it has become. I worked as a childcare staff after my internship and was constantly wowed by the number of regular volunteers, the Girl Scout groups, local sports teams, fraternities, CSU athletes, etc that would show up to hang out with the kids. I had the privilege of spending time with and learning from incredible kids as a way to support their families. I know their parents and siblings were grateful for the time, and we had a blast runnig around the house creating adventures and building friendships. Looking back, my time at Respite Care was too short, but I'm so happy to call myself part of the Respite family.
(Side note: I'm now a speech therapist, all because of the kids at Respite Care)
Thank you, Respite, for providing strong, consistent support for families in Fort Collins!
My grandson has been going to Respite Care for at least 3yrs. or more. I only been there to pick him up a few times but I've always been impressed by the caring staff. I keep in touch with their events on FB , my daughter & grandson share their experiences. This organization and supports are a blessing to so many families!
Respite is the BEST! Where to begin...Once our daughter starting going to Respite, it changed our lives forever. Respite is an extension of our family in every way possible. The staff and volunteers are loving and supportive. Our daughter feels at home and comfortable when she is there. It gives our family much needed "respite" to do some "normal" activities now and then, like a date night or spending one-on-one time with our other daughter. The staff is trained to administer meds when needed, and this gives us added peace of mind. I also am honored to be a Board Member, and I cannot think of a better organization to volunteer my time. I want to thank Respite, its staff, and volunteers for all their hard work, compassion, and loving/caring nature that they give our kids on a daily basis.
How do you describe a place that changes lives on a daily basis? As a volunteer at Respite Care, I work along side an amazing group of caring, loving, and energetic staff. The way they work and play with the children makes you realize the staff here is very special. As for the children, they are dear and wonderful, just like children everywhere, each with their own unique abilities. I always look forward to the days I volunteer at Respite.
Fort Collins is indeed fortunate to have a facility like this that not only provides short term quality care for children with developmental disabilities, but also gives parents of these children the respite they so often need.
My son just started attending Respite Inc. and he actually asks me when he get to go again! You always worry about the care your child will receive when trying to find a place. However, this has been amazing place with caring staff and a true gift for my family.
My son has been attending Respite Care, Inc for a few years now, and I cannot begin to explain what a vital role Respite plays in our lives. My son's needs are too extensive to be managed in a typical childcare environment. I am a single mom and Respite is the only place I can trust to care for him so that I can work full time hours. The staff is amazing! They tend to each kiddos individual needs and provide the greatest care, while making each day fun, inclusive and social. My son loves coming to Respite everyday to hang out with his friends- both kids and staff...and while he has fun playing, I can breathe easy while um working, or sometimes actually getting to take advantage of a break. I couldn't do it all without the help of such an understanding. and supportive group of people. We love Respite! !!
My daughter has been going to Respite for a couple of years now. She loves going and spending time with all of her friends! She truly loves everyone there and they love her. I will never be able to put in words how grateful I am for the love and kindness and care they provide. It's so heartwarming to know that while your away your child is in the best place in the world! Thank you to each and everyone of you!
I have been involved tith this organization for 25+ years. It is undoubtably the most rewarding experience in my life!! The children are the best :) loving, innocent and fun loving.... They just want yo be loved for who they are .... The families..... The best.... Trying to hold it together up give their special needs kids the best life possible and the Respite staff who put no limits on the kids because they a Know they will exceed them!!! Making a difference in everyday lives ... Every day !!
My daughter Sara attended respite summer camp last summer. Sara spends most of her time in a wheel chair. By the time summer camp was over, she was riding a horse through an obstacle course. The fact that this experience was more than affordable was beyond beliefe. It simple changes lives and makes it affordable for folks like us. We are forever thankful.
My daughter has been a part of the Respite Care family for almost 9 years. The staff is amazing! Respite Care not only affords me the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with my "mainstream" son, but allows my daughter to be as independent as she can be by the positive encouragement from the loving, caring, and spunky staff!! Respite has been a God-send to my little family and we are forever thankful for it!
We haved used Respite Care on several occasions, both short-term stays and for overnights. I have found them to take excellent care of our son, and he loves to go, which is a recommendation unto itself!
I worked for Respite Care Inc for over 3 years and there are no words to describe the impact they have had on my life. You become apart of a family and the love lives on no matter where you go in life. The kiddos and families are my inspiration and the reason why I became an occupational therapist. I hope to continue the mission of giving every child the gift of opportunity and empowerment to live life to the fullest.
I worked at Respite Care, inc. for almost three years. That place truly feels like home to children, staff, and volunteers. There is no place quite like it-full of love, learning and laughter. I'm honored to be apart of this organizations little family!
Our family used Respite Care's services for our son Randy (Down Syndrome). The love and care they gave him was remarkable, and helped make our job as parents a bit easier. They helped teach us about caring for Randy, and they helped Randy learn to care for others lower functioning than himself. He *loved* it there!
We lost Randy to leukemia at age 16 in 2006, but we have not lost Respite Care! We keep in touch with the staff and bring everyone lunch on Randy's birthday.
A better organization of this type you will not find!
