Andrew has benefited from equine therapy for many years. Reins In Motion works with him on all kinds of goals from physical strength and stretching, motor skills, cognitive skills, social skills, whatever is our top priority. He's achieved so much with them. In fact, the work he's doing has helped him be able to walk again! Reins In Motion is the best!!
Reins in Motion amazing! A definite help to the undeserved community who need to address problems both physical and mental. Caring staff and excellent horses!
Incredible foundation. You can really see how much joy it brings to the children and the impact it has on their lives.
Reins in motion is a wonderful program. I learned of this program from my mom, who has volunteered with them for many years. Through attending Reins annually fundraisers, I have seen what RIM has done for so many people and how much it has affected their clients and families. This is one awesome nonprofit to have in our community!
I volunteered for several years with Reins in Motion and everyday saw little miracles as the horses and clients interacted... there is communication between the horses and clients that go beyond verbal conversation and is facilitated deeper by the instructor and support team working with each client. What is also unique is that programs are individually designed for each client that ensures no "one size fits all" approach gets in the way. Although I've discontinued weekly volunteering I've served as extra team support and have further transitioned into volunteering and donating to fund raising efforts, especially their primary annual fund raiser. They're a valuable and essential element of healing for unique individuals and their families as they navigate challenging journeys. I reserve time to help this nonprofit however I can.
I have been a participant in Reins in Motion’s annual fundraiser and have seen the amazing work they have done for our community throughout the years. Such a blessing to have this available for those in need of this type of therapy.
I had the pleasure of volunteering with Reins throughout high-school. The dedication Reins has to their clients is amazing. The clients benefit tremendously from their interaction with the horses. They don't even realize it's therapy.
It has been an amazing experience volunteering the past 6 years with this non profit organization! The friendships I have made with the staff/volunteers as well as the clients will give memories of a lifetime. It gives such joy to work with the clients & see thier joy from interacting with the horses.

Reins is a fabulous nonprofit organization that provides therapy thru the use of horses. It not only focusing on core strengthing, it also works on mental awareness thru applying games or patterns which make your mind work as you need to remember what the patterns are. You can always sit in a therapist office but why not get the exercise & love from the horses & enjoy the outdoors while doing it.
I’ve been volunteering for RIM for about 13yrs. In these many years that I have volunteered, I have seen such amazing things this program has done for so many children and adults. This program is such a blessing to have in our community. It is an honor for me to be part of this.
Reins in Motion Foundation is a remarkable volunteer-based nonprofit that helps so many clients to live their best possible lives. The support extended to clients whether special needs or veterans expands to improve the lives of their families and the community at large. Individual plans are developed for working on physical strength, emotions, and communication skills with activities centered on accomplishing goals. As for veterans with PTSD, horsemanship allows the opportunity to meet with other veterans while grooming horses in a safe environment re-establishing trust in the community amongst their peers. Every volunteer has been touched by and is committed to the clients and their success. I first joined as a board member as I believe that "riding is the best solution to any problem" and am now training to work as a volunteer working with both horses and clients. Rarely does one find a situation in which giving of oneself can make such a direct impact on the life of someone else in such a can-do environment. Becoming a part of this herd, whether as a client, family member, volunteer, donor, or horse is a life-changing experience in such a positive way.

I have seen in person the love and caring that is shown to each rider involved in the equine therapy lessons at Reins in Motion. The helpers ensure that there is dignity while challenging the rider to gain greater confidence and stretch his or her abilities on the horse. The rider and helper along with the horse are obviously a cohesive team in each lesson. The families of the riders share in the pride of accomplishment. I wish everyone would have the opportunity to see the hope and promise that results from a lesson at the barn. Reins in Motion provides so much for so many. The fundraiser in September is a great opportunity for the larger community to meet and great each other away from the barn which is also fun. The fact that the riders do not age out and that Reins is considering expanding its adult offerings (veterans now, potential for Alzheimer's patients in future) is yet another reason to be thankful. Thank you for everything that you do to keep this a positive activity in so many lives.
As a Reins In Motion volunteer, I have seen firsthand the amazing impact equine therapy has had on our riders. Between the expertise and guidance of our caring instructors, the patience and kindness of the volunteers, and the loving hearts of our very special horses, Reins In Motion is making a difference one rider at a time.
The last 4 1/2 years volunteering with Reins in Motion have been so rewarding. To see the progress and smiles from these amazing kids while having fun on the horses fills my heart. I can’t think of anything I would rather do!

We have been riding at Reins in Motion for 5 years now. My son has made improvements in every area and we truly feel PATH riding is an integral therapy for him. We have seen him get so confident on the horse as well as increase strength and speech. We love the horses and the team of volunteers who make this therapy possible. We also appreciate that it hasn’t become cost prohibitive for us because of the generous donations and volunteers. Thank you so much to Katy and the whole Reins in Motion team.

Alright, check this out. Katy is LITERALLY such a kind woman. She, along with sweet Moonie, have helped me so much in the 3 years and 1 month ever since I enrolled in the program. My mental illness was so out of hand ever since I was 13, and it peaked in 2019 until I came here. Everyone and every horse is actually so amazing and awesome, I can't thank you guys enough. You've literally changed my life for the better of course, and you give my life meaning! Katy is so very supportive and she's always here for me when I'm going through a tough time, and she's so caring, and she's just the best! And Moonie omg don't even get me started she is actually the sweetest, most gentle horse in the world world! She's one of the first horsies I hung out and played with, and I fell in love with her immediately. I've ridden quite a bit here, and Katy is the best instructor ever! Being at the barn is magical, foreal! Like I'm not even exaggerating or anything it's seriously magical. I believe Moonie is actually a unicorn with healing powers! Ok yeah I could write like a ten page essay on how cool everyone is aaaaa but ok that's enough for now! Once again, thank you all for making my life so much better :) oh yeah I also wanna add that I super look forward to coming to my session, it's definitely the highlight of my week! I'm so thankful and grateful that I'm able to go out to the barn on such a frequent basis and it's just so amazing. I love alllllll the horsies but especially cutie pie Moonie as I said before, and I could say it again a million times more! But yeah my mental state like it's such in better place and I am so so happy that I'm able to have these experiences here at Reins. Keep doing what you're doing everyone, you've changed my life and countless and countless others! Thank youuu! :D
I’ve been volunteering with Reins in Motion for several months now and it is the highlight of my week. Horses have a sixth sense and seeing them interact with the kids is truly something special. The reaction from the kids is the icing on the cake. It is a privilege to be with the kids and help give them an experience they could never get anywhere else
I have been volunteering with Reins in Motion for close to four years now. The amount of dedication and support they give to each individual student is nothing less than inspiring. Horses have a magical power of healing individuals. Having an organization such as Reins in Motion bridging the two together is wonderful!

Reins in Motion is a gem in the community! They help so many people and work tirelessly to keep their program running. Katy and Amanda believe in the power of horses to heal and are improving the lives of people with disabilities in the community.
I love coming here for the kids, the instructors, the horses, and everything about it. Being out at Reins in Motion just leaves you feeling happy.
I’ve been a volunteer at Reins for 11yrs. This program is so near and dear to my heart. The instructors and the staff are some of the most loving and caring people I know. Everyone here puts in 100% to make sure that each of our riders have the best experience during their time here. I have seen first hand what horse therapy and a loving and caring staff can do to help our riders achieve their goals.
Review for Reins in Motion
My name is Mariela Meylan.
I am the mother of a beautiful eighteen year old girl, who’s name is Jaela.
In 2004, I was involved in an attack in the Iraq War, while I was serving in the Army. I suffered a massive brain injury, that affected my whole body. With, the help of Reins In Motion, I’ve made a remarkable recovery. In the beginning I was scared. It was painful to sit on the horse in my back, and hips. My goals are to strengthen my back, and hips. Gain confidence and regain my balance. I’ve gained a lot of trust and confidence, and muscle memory on the horse. It’s helping my short term memory, too.
My favorite horse is Harry.
My son with Angelman Syndrome took his first independent steps walking after 4 sessions of Hippotherapy! We had tried so many other therapies but Hippotherapy was the turning point for him. Reins is Motion is an an astonishing organization that provides an amazing therapy to people in need, while also keeping the fees at a reasonable rate. The staff and volunteers are so dedicated and helpful. We are so lucky to have found this wonderful community! My son absolutely loves to go each week and we have been going for more years than we can count. Thank you Reins in Motion!
My special needs daughter has been riding at Reins in Motion for several years now. She loves it and it is her favorite activity! Her therapist tailors her session to her abilities and she has gradually become more and more independent on the horses. I believe it has given her great confidence which shines through on other activities.
As a volunteer of this wonderful organization, I give so many thanks to Katy & Amanda who run this. I grew up with Tourretts Syndrome and with that was a life long journey with challenges a long the way however with Reins in Motion the healing aspects and the joy of horses really bring joy into the day. This organization is truly amazing whether your a student or volunteer they really will go out of there way to help you in what ever you need.
The Reins in motion foundation was so friendly and welcoming to our daughter Mariah over 10 years ago when we started our equestrian therapy journey. Our daughter has a balance disorder and it has helped her have exposure to balancing while on a horse. We wanted her to have an activity that was all about her and it has given her so much more…she gets social interaction, friendships, encouragement, consistency, support, praise, laughter & accountability. The staff also love the horses and are very dedicated to them in all aspects time, attention, care, love, routines rain or shine! I’ve been in awe of this organization from the beginning…it’s a labor of love for horses and clients. Support from donors makes it possible to afford the best care for the horses and makes the program accessible to the both the communities they serve, both vets and people with disabilities. Thank you Reins hero’s and thank you donors for making this adventure for my daughter possible! We love you! Thank you!
My developmentally disabled son Scott has been riding with Reins in Motion for several years. To see his growth in confidence being around these large animals, him overcoming his fear of falling off the horse (even getting joy out of trotting while holding his hands above his head, and him guiding the horse. For many parents Scott’s progression may seem normal, but for this parent it is exceptional and a RARE. It’s an opportunity for him to grow in a world that is not usually open to him.
Reins in Motion is an incredible local resource right here in Livermore! So many people with disabilities have improved their quality of life with horse therapy. I've learned so much about the benefits of therapeutic riding, and how strengthening the core muscles can improve mobility and open lungs for better breathing and even speech. I'm so impressed with the real results, the possibilities, and the hope that Reins in Motion brings to everyone it serves. Thank you for your unwavering dedication to helping others!
Reins in Motion is an awesome foundation to work with. I recommend Reins to any family in search of a dependable, friendly, and knowledgeable therapy foundation. They're also a fun and friendly foundation to volunteer for.
Amazing place doing some very heart warming work. Watching the trainers light up the arena with smiles from clients and volunteers alike. The horses are all personality and happy too. A wonderful place!
Wonderful place to volunteer at, great supervision from really good people, and my favorite part is you can really see making a difference in each clients day. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing their faces light up when they get to ride our beautiful and friendly horses!
RIM is a great charity because they provide therapeutic riding programs to vulnerable people, including special-needs children and veterans. Everyone involved benefits from the opportunity to connect with the beautiful gentle horses and the natural surroundings. Their program depends on volunteers and donations to care for the horses and provide riding therapy to the clients.
This is a wonderful non-profit! Reins in Motion helps people gain confidence and independence. It is a place where there are sweet horses, dogs, kind and generous people... it's the best!
I am a volunteer and seeing the clients benefit from the horse therapy is very rewarding. Seeing their progress is really remarkable. The trainers and horses are fantastic!
I have been a volunteer for over 6 years at Reins in Motion. It is such a rewarding experience to see our children smile and enjoy the horses. Our group of volunteers is fantastic. What a wonderful program for our children with special needs and Veterans.
Reins in Motion is a wonderful partner of The Taylor Family Foundation (TTFF). They bring their horses to camp throughout the year and allow our campers to enjoy the relaxation of riding, grooming, or just companionship! Because of their illnesses or disabilities, many of our campers may have never ridden, been around, or even touched a horse before this experience. Reins in Motion makes the magic of camp come to life for our campers in a fun and safe environment! Thank you!
As a volunteer at Reins, I have the honor of working with some wonderfully special children, some amazing horses and many caring and talented volunteers.
The instructors, Katy and Amanda give each client untiring care and nurturing support.
Bravo, Reins.
I had the opportunity to work as a volunteer and was amazed at the results for families and individuals. Reins In Motion staff, both human and horse, focus totally to meet individual designed to meet individual client needs. Every time I left after volunteering I felt that I had gotten far more than I gave and was privileged to have been able to participate. Although I no longer volunteer I am a happy donor because I saw first hand that every dollar is used to get maximum value to ensure the program benefits clients and also cares for the staff, particularly the therapy horses, to ensure a high quality program. I highly recommend Reins In Motion as an option for individuals with temporary and long term special needs. Katy Kempton is the best . Call her to talk about your needs.
Reins in motion has been fantastic! My daughter has Down Syndrome and I have been wanting to get her in horseback riding for the last few years, but really found it hard to find a place for my daughter with special needs. They were so accommodating and their expertise with children with special needs made me feel so comfortable. The staff is super nice- the volunteers there are amazing! My daughter LOVES coming here, she always looks forward to it. Truly feel blessed that there's a place like this in our area! They do amazing things for the children in our community.
They are amazing! The staff and volunteers were very flexible in working with my daughter while she was getting out of hospital stays. They were patient and loving and worked hard to get her confidence back. They are one of a kind!!
I love volunteering with the Reins in Motion Family. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and the work they do is amazing. Seeing the joy on the faces of the clients and their families as they interact with the horses is worth every minute of the time I spend there. The horses are well chosen and also seem to love their work and realise they are doing something worthwhile. It is a family atmosphere and produces great results.
As a volunteer with Reins in Motion, I see every week the joy and relief of the parents of the challenged kids and young adults who come to our program. At our annual fundraiser, I get to the stories from our client families of the difference that our horses and volunteers and therapists have made in their lives. One of the most striking examples of the value of our program for veterans was the woman veteran of the Iraq war who told me that after attending our program, she was able to be outside her home and in public places for the first time after having PTSD and agoraphobia after her war experiences in tanks. Paying for the boarding, food, vet and dental care and farrier services for our 8 horses is hard, and we are grateful to the individuals and organizations who make our services available to families that otherwise would not be able to benefit.
Sincerely, John Hughes, Livermore, CA
Reins In Motion Foundation provides one on one quality horse therapy to children and adults. Reins also has a program for Veterans and provides horse riding to the Taylor Family Foundation during their camping season. Each client has a team of individuals and their horse that helps them thru activities geared for their needs. The clients are stimulated and given a sense of empowerment over this big and kind creature. The horse is the only animal that walks as we do. When you take an individual with weak legs and place their hips on the horse, they walk for that client helping to build up core strength. This is the building blocks for the entire body. Sensory issues are dealt with along with encouragement of language. So many of these clients lack language and with rhythm of the horse and stronger core strength, language emerges. We have clients who are now sitting on own, crawling and walking on own since riding with the program. It is magical to watch and the horses love them unconditionally and give them a can do attitude.
In the Summer Reins will offer some Day at the Ranch Day Camp. Camp gives the children an opportunity to experience the great outdoors and spend time with their favorite animal, the horse. They spend time grooming, painting and sometimes giving the horse a bath. On one of those hot Livermore days, the horse and the client get relief from this activity.
Reins in Motion not only benefits the clients but the many volunteers that it takes to provide a safe and fun environment for all who participate.
