We recently moved to the Pittsburgh area and discovered the wonderful historic home and birthplace of Rachel Carson. Ms. Carson was a courageous visionary. Her landmark book, SILENT SPRING, published in 1962, literally launched the environmenatl movement and new laws around the detrimental effects of synthetic pesticides across animals, birds and human health. "Nothing exists alone," is vividly and scientifically documented in Rachel Carson's landmark book, SILENT SPRING. Ms. Carson influenced President John F. Kenndy to convene a scientific advisory council that affirmed her scientific findings about the use of such pesticides as DDT. Ms. Carson was a highly respected scientist who first graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Women, known today as Chatham University. She then earned a second degree from Johns Hopkins University. The organization is training docents to help lead tours - https://rachelcarsonhomestead.org/local-opportunities/
