Mission: Project OpenHand was founded in 1994 by Matt Taylor, a man living with AIDS himself. When Matt found himself caring for another friend and trying to juggle a fulltime job, he investigated his options for providing meals for his friend. Meals offered by the local Meals on Wheels lacked the appropriate nutrient requirements to fight HIV and were difficult for his friend to eat. Knowing that there were hundreds of others in the same situation, Matt established POHC with a few others and began providing good-tasting, whole-food meals to people living with AIDS in Columbus.
