Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Community Coalitions

Mission: Private School Village (PSV), founded in 2018, cultivates and harnesses the power of community to positively transform the private school experience for Black and brown families so that students fully thrive. In partnership with more than 60 private schools, PSV empowers parent engagement to instill student well-being, normalize inclusive and equitable communities, and encourage lasting systemic and institutional policy and process change that will impact a student's healthy development. We do this by increasing racial literacy, socialization, representation, and supporting related research.

Private School Village has changed our lives. The sense of community that Private School Village provides to parents and families is invaluable. The community of like-minded families who share in similar experiences in private schools consistently support and uplift each other. There is no other organization out there like PSV and we are so grateful to be a part of the organization!

As a mom of 2 in private school, Private School Village has been a foundational part of our family's adjustment and connection to Black and Brown families within the Southern California community. My oldest went from Public to Private and it was a difficult switch being one of only a few kids of color. Fast forward a few years and now having immersed ourselves within the PSV community through fun activities and educational discussions, we have found ourselves continuing to volunteer, serve, spread the word, and attend as many events as possible! In addition, we are at schools where staff have welcomed PSV and see the organization as a true partner in creating community. I'm so happy I was led to this organization and would highly recommend attending events to connect in whenever possible!

I’m so grateful PSV exists. I didn’t realize that racial socialization was so crucial to the mental health of my children until the first PSV event when I saw them interacting with kids who look like them and I heard them talking afterwards about it on the ride home. When they asked when the next even was, I knew that they had been missing out by not coming together with other Black kids on a regular basis. PSV provides this much needed socialization (and other valuable, educational and often service-based programming) that is crucial to the well being of Black kids who attend private schools in a way that is extremely well though out and even fun. PSV fells like family.
