Great staff, wonderful board, worthwhile programs!

As a lifetime member of PDK, I have had wonderful opportunities to be involved at various levels. Phi Delta Kappa is three organizations under one umbrella, Phi Delta Kappa International (PDK), Pi Lambda Theta (PLT), and Educators Rising. Currently, I am on the task force for both PDK and PLT, and I see firsthand the incredible work that the PDK staff, board, and volunteers do to help educators at all levels. For instance, we have over 44,000 students in high school and the first years of college who belong to Educators Rising. PDK is helping those beginners have a deeper understanding of our profession. In June, we will have the Educators Rising Conference where these students will present their best lessons, research papers, and so forth. Last year, approximately 1,000 students and teacher leaders attended this conference.
Next week, I will attend a chapter dinner and silent auction where we will honor graduating seniors with scholarships to help them in their first teaching position. Three weeks ago, another chapter I am affiliated with recognized a member who had been active for 61 years. In addition, the chapter gave a $1,500 award to a doctoral student at the University of Houston and a $500 scholarship to an undergraduate who is pursing a degree in education.
These are a few examples that show the outstanding work that PDK is doing and explains why I am so proud to be a member of this prestigious organization.
I have been a member of PDK for over 45 years. I have seen this organization provide millions of dollars over the years to young people who want to become educators. They publish one of the leading journals in education. They have supported and provided the research for 50 years of an education poll (formally called the Gallup poll on education) that provides information about what the US believes about public education. Recently I did a presentation to a Boards of Education members about why children are not successful in school. I used the research study done by PDK in the early 90's called "Growing up is Risky business but the Schools are not to blame". I have personally donated thousands of dollars to this organization because I believe in it's goals. It truly is making a difference in improving education for the children in the Us, Canada and many other places around the world. PDK has been an organization for over 100 years. It was proved itself through its scholarship, research and support for public education. No organization that is 100 years old can match what PDK has done for education of the children in the US, Canada, and other parts for the world.
During my post-bac studies in educational administration I was nominated for PDK membership. It was quite an honor the evening I was inducted into this prestigious association of elite influential educators. During my 25 years of membership I have had the privilege of serving PDK International as an officer of my local chapter and state chapter. I have served as a Chapter Member Liaison and on several PDK Board task force committees devoted to recruiting, serving and retaining members. I'm excited by the growth of PDK International to merge with several prominent associations to meet the needs of all educators -- high school students, teachers, administrators, staff at IHEs, central office staff and state department staff, as well as any person who supports education. There are many membership benefits. Two benefits that greatly influence educators and impact teaching and learning practices are the KAPPAN magazine and Annual Gallup Poll results. Please consider joining this elite group of influencers or making a generous donation to the Education Foundation to provide scholarships for future educators.
I have been a member of PDK for over thirty years. My professional life has ranged from teaching primary grades to teaching graduate level classes and has spanned several states and various educational institutions. Whenever I moved, joining the local PDK was one of the first things I did! PDK provides activities and opportunities for educators at all levels and it was a wonderful setting to meet others with similar goals. I also decided to participate as an officer of my local chapter for several years. I have seen members earn scholarships, awards, and education/travel experiences. Recently our chapter became inactive and requested that our funds be submitted to PDK Intl as an endowed scholarship in our chapter's name. It has been a great experience working with PDK as we prepare this permanent scholarship as an honor for our chapter which had been active for over 75 years. The board members have been helpful and provided us with needed guidance as we have reached this milestone.
In 1977 I was nominated to be a member of Phi Delta Kappa International, the University of California Berkeley Chapter 0011. This was a real honor to get nominated to be a member of the prestigious Berkeley Chapter. This chapter was the 11th chapter organized in 1911. As a member, I benefited from the teacher support that PDK provided. The support included many teaching resources like materials, lectures, networking, access to research and practical tools to help educators deliver excellence. As a teacher who was completing advanced degrees at the University, I had access to data that was not available to the general public, all at no cost! One of my favorite resources was a subscription to the Kappan, the renown magazine of PDK. I could also apply for scholarships and traveling scholarships.
Later when I as an administrator began coaching student teachers and interns, I encouraged the them to join PDK to take advantage of the benefits of the organization. Many teachers joined on their own and started networking with other PDK members, sharing with other educators.
Our chapter eventually suffered a problem that started affecting organizations in the 90's and 00's. Our membership began to shrink. We tried many ways to get more members to no avail. Finally, our Board reached out to PDK International for help. After some discussion, PDK International offered one-year complimentary digital memberships for educators in our school district. Last month we sent an invitation to join PDK to the educators. We received 52 positive responses, DOUBLING our membership!! Our first meeting with our new members is soon.
We hope that our chapter, UC Berkeley 0011 will be able to help the new members learn about the benefits of Phi Delta Kapa. PDK is committed to growing leaders in education and strengthening schools so that every student thrives! And our chapter will continue to support educators as they work with students reach new heights.
As a board member of PDK, I have watched the organization, through its publications, provide practitioners and the broader public with important information. Translating research in ways that makes it easier to understand is critically important. In addition, PDK , with its annual poll supplies new knowledge critical to policymakers. Last year, PDK officials presented powerful and insightful findings from their annual poll findings at the Southern Education Foundation's 150 year Anniversary meeting in Atlanta. And this year's report entitled, Teaching: Respect but dwindling appeal, offered important data on the status of teaching while teachers from communities across the nation argued for more support for teachers and students. I look forward to PDK continuing its leadership role in both supporting practitioners and especially teachers, and providing data that contributes to evidence-based public discourse on the state of public education in the United States.
I have been an educator for nearly 5 decades. I have taught on all levels including 13 years as a professor. I joined PDK when I was first appointed an assistant principal and have remained a member all these years. For the past decade, I have been active in the Adelphi University chapter and currently serve as president of the chapter. I have brought in hundreds of young professionals from my graduate classes into Phi Delta Kappa. I am proud that we were the largest chapter of new members worldwide this year. I am also proud to be a lifetime member of PDK. Keep up the good work PDK!
It is a pleasure to work with Katrina and Kate at PDK. For the past two years, PDK has supported our organization, the National State Teachers of the Year-Pennsylvania Chapter (NSTOY-PA), by sponsoring an annual membership with PDK for our finalists for Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year. As educators, we value the resources and informative publications and appreciate their support. Keep up the great work!
I have been a member of PDK since 1976. I joined because of the prestige and reputation of the organization and its members. I joined and remain a member because PDK is a place where professional educators network, support the right things and serve the profession.
PDK is currently undergoing a huge transformation reclaiming its place in the education space. PDK is THE place to go for honest and balanced treatment of critical issues. PDK is THE place to go dissemination of research into practice that educators can use. PDK is the THE place to go to find resources to use, to connect with other educators and be guided by the latest evidence-based information available.
PDK is forming a pipeline for the profession through Eductor's Rising beginning in high school, continuing through the collegiate levels and into the profession. Leveraged by the additional assets of KAPPAN magazine, and the PDK Poll, PDK's place in the education space is sought by educators, policymakers, and others because it is current, balanced and can be trusted.
I am proud to be a member of PDK as an organization that lives its core values and serves educators on behalf of our students. I donate to PDK for the same reasons.
This is the very best educational nonprofit that I have worked with! They provide valuable resources to educators from pre-K to college. In particular, the Kappan magazine always has timely and thought provoking articles. And the PDK Poll published each fall of the American public's attitude towards education is the most comprehensive poll across -- and it has been given every year for 50 years. I donate to PDK because I truly believe in their mission and the good they are doing for education across the country.
I have been a member of Phi Delta Kappa for close to two decades. My involvement with PDK has had a tremendously positive impact on my career arc and continually supports me in finding better and more meaningful ways to serve students.
I have seen the benefits of the networking, products, and services that PDK has provided in the field of education.
I am especially proud of the fact that PDK continues to embrace its' enduring legacy while simultaneously engaging in new efforts to effectively meet the ever-changing needs found in a variety of educational settings.
I donate to PDK because of the great work they do to further the field of education. From working with aspiring educators to honoring those in the field to providing the most comprehensive poll on societal views on public schools, PDK’s work is of utmost importance, especially today!
I have been an active member of this organization for almost 20 years. I appreciate PDK's approach to being a leading voice in K-16 education. No other educational association focuses on the entire education system from top to bottom. PDK brings tremendous research and experience through its journal articles found in its incredible journal magazine KAPPAN. The organization "puts its money where its mouth is" by supporting the next wave of teachers through its EdRising program. This is a much needed effort as we look to waning numbers of students interested in education as a profession. I have enjoyed being served by and serving for this organization for years. Way to go PDK! Keep up the awesome work.
PDK's growth over the past few years has been exciting to watch, both as a donor as well as a member of the community that cares deeply about education. I personally donate to support the future of the teaching profession and would encourage others to do so as well.
I traveled with PDK on a 10-day trip to Scandinavia. The tour guides were exceptional, and extremely knowledgeable. The accommodations were great. The meals were fantastic. And the tour group was wonderful. I have done some traveling throughout my life and this trip surely rates at the top. I look forward to being able to participate in another PDK trip real soon. I would recommend a PDK trip for anyone who is interested in truly learning about the cultures of other countries, likes small groups of like-minded travelers and appreciates the opportunities to experience an atypical tour.
