Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Paws In Need, a California 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, is dedicated to improving animal welfare in our local community. Founded in 2013, our primary mission has been to reduce dog and cat overpopulation in the Tri-Valley area through an aggressive spay and neuter program that gives our local residents access to affordable services; and to provide financial assistance to low-income, homeless, and elderly populations by covering a one-time expense for urgent veterinary procedures. Both of these cost-share programs were created with the same end result in mind, namely to prevent unnecessary suffering, illness, surrender, and euthanasia of companion animals.

Hi, to all who read reviews.. This is my first review I have ever written on anything. Normally, I’m not the type of person to write out anything negative. However, I truly believe it is important to All to be Informed of how we were treated. We met Lisa about a year and a half ago. We were trying to help some poor/homeless, kittens, and mom in our area. Our first conversation with Lisa, went very well, she was very helpful with advice and helping us trying to place the kittens with their organization. In the beginning, she was very well respectful and nice. That situation was resolved. then there was another situation of helping another homeless mom and kittens. Our next call to Lisa, she said we can’t do anything to help you right now. We said OK thank you so much. And then we ran into another situation of cats in need. We reached out to Lisa,, and for whatever reason, she yelled at the top of her lungs, and said don’t contact me again how many times do I have to tell you I can’t help you. And also received multiple text from her with derogatory/rude/unprofessional wording. We have no idea why she started to treat us so disrespectful. When we contact a rescue group it is because we are out there trying to help a situation. that is in desperate need. In the meantime, we had met a lady in Byron that was extremely nice and was willing to take three of the kittens. So we made our way out to Byron and she kindly took the kittens. Fast forward to six months, again we were out there trying to help another situation of mom and kittens in need. We contacted Paws Un Need again and again we got a response of, I told you don’t ever contact me again. Why don’t you listen how many times do I have to tell you. No reason behind any of this. So then we proceeded to contact the lady in Byron to see if she could help again and we got the same rude disrespectful response. Well come to find out Jermaine coincides with Lisa at Paws In Need. So for some crazy unprofessional reason, Lisa, decided to downgrade of who we are as people, etc. to Jermaine. So Jermaine said don’t you contact us anymore either. So because of all of this unprofessionalism/bullying/rudeness, quite a large amount of kittens and mom Cats lost their lives. We had no other help to get to help these poor animals. I have plenty of text from Lisa, from Paws In Need and text from Jermaine Byron that are full of bullying statements and downgrading to who we are as people. If I could, I would take all of the text that I have and put them on the reviews so everybody in the world could see how we were treated. I have multiple health disabilities, which affect me cognitively. So sometimes I have to have things repeated to me or reminded to me due to my health issues. And quite honestly, I was treated so bad to such a degree of bullying. It is actually in the discriminating form. We will also be writing a review on CC4C . I met Gemma years ago at CC4C and she helped us with a kitten. She was extremely pushy and rude and very unprofessional also. Years later, my husband called her and said he found a kitten. Would she be able to take it. He explained to her the kitten was young, but he was a little bit timid, and he said if by chance , you have any issues with the Kitten we will take it back. She invited him out, invited him inside to visit and he took her the kitten. For whatever reason months and months later, Gemma from CC4C decided to inform all of the other Rescue organizations that my husband took a kitten to her and dumped the kitten off to her and is stuck with it now Because it is too timid. This is completely untrue. Every day, I cry, wondering what happened to this poor little kitten wondering if it’s been treated OK. Also, I have sent and referred multiple people to call these two organizations. One person I referred to call over there was a very young girl that I was trying to help her get her mama cat fixed and a place to take her kittens to. When she called Gemma at CC4C, Gemma said to this Young lady, I can’t understand you because of your accent and until you can learn better English do not contact me again. What is wrong with these people?!!!!!! I have talked to numerous people that have been treated so rudely by Paws In Need And CC4C. My husband and I have helped and saved to some degree or another over 200 cats just on our own and have spent well over $45,000 to help these animals. Our town Is in desperate need of help due to so many homeless animals. These organizations seem to just care about helping the people that have large amounts of money to give back to their organization. If anybody’s interested in reading the text that I have from these organizations or listening to the voice messages that I have from these organizations that are derogatory/unprofessional, and most importantly BULLYING, Please don’t hesitate to contact me. It is not OK to bully people that have cognitive/physical disabilities in this world. It is not OK to bully anybody for any reason. When these organizations told us they were full and they could not help, we had other people call asking for help with the similar situation. They had no problem helping some of these other people. Once they realized we refer them over then they refused to help these people.the only thing that we have done that may have been an issue cause Have it, would be that we called too many times asking for help. Well, come on now we won’t be calling if we didn’t need help for dying animals.

“As Co-Founder, Medical Programs Director, and President of Paws In Need, I am really proud of our organization for always keeping our collective eyes on the ball, for impacting the community as much as we have, and even during a pandemic, we continued helping animals in need when many others suspended their operations. We have successfully persevered through many obstacles over the last two years, and we will forge ahead to champion our mission. It is not just one animal story that makes us so unique--it is our passion, dedicated volunteers, and generous donors, all of which sustain our efforts.”

I have been an avid supporter of Paws In Need’s constant drive to improve access to veterinary care since the day that PIN reached out about our first shared case. The PIN team is dedicated to the welfare of animals and the families that love them, and also to the veterinary professionals that are involved in the animal’s care. As a veterinarian, the numerous opportunities that PIN has given me to help animals with treatable conditions has been a very meaningful aspect of my career. Thank you for all that you do, Paws In Need!

Before I joined this wonderful organization as a Board Member, I had the privilege to know past board members and recipients of the programs. The concern the members of the organization show for the animals is unbelievable, especially the Director of Programs who almost single handily take charge of all the cases. The way she combines her excellent rapport with all the vets with special partnership with other rescues allows the organization to expand its reach beyond the limited scope of the programs.

I'm a volunteer with Paws In Need and have seen the many success stories of animals and their people helped by PIN. Note that PIN is NOT a rescue or shelter: Paws In Need is a 501(c)(3) non-profit all-volunteer organization that provides financial assistance for spay and neuter surgeries plus necessary one-time medical treatment of community animals (feral, stray or owned) in the Tri-Valley area (Livermore, Pleasanton, Sunol, Dublin, San Ramon and Danville).

Paws In Need is expanding the availability of financial assistance for Spay and Neuter surgeries to the general public. This is needed to reduce the number of animals that come to local shelters which costs taxpayers millions of dollars each year.

In addition, Paws In Need has taken over the Just Like New Fund, which provides financial assistance for community pets with a necessary one-time medical need. The Just Like New Fund helps prevent euthanasia or surrender due to the financial hardship of an animal’s guardian.

Paws In Need volunteers run the Animal Lover’s Boutique (gift items for pets and the people who love them) at the Feline Medical Center, 3160 Santa Rita Road in Pleasanton. The proceeds from this year-round Monday through Friday Boutique along with special sales events go to fund the Just Like New program.

Please see our website, Paws-In-Need.org, for more information, to make a donation, volunteer opportunities and fundraising events. For funding help for your pet's medical needs, please see the website or phone us at 925-551-1877 to see if you or the animal qualifies for assistance.
