Mission: Operation Help a Hero is a 501 (c) (3) public charity (Federal Tax ID 27-1438256) dedicated to the well-being and care of our American military members. Our programs support military units and families as they prepare for separation, while they endure the challenges of deployment, and as they transition back to the United States. Our projects uplift our military heroes and send a clear message of support to their entire family. Operation Help a Hero connects communities with service members and provides real opportunities to make a difference in the lives of those who serve our country. We are an all volunteer organization. All board members and directors volunteer their time to focus all donations on our projects and the military heroes they serve. Every cent contributed to Operation Help a Hero is used to serve our military community, and every project is based on real needs.
Results: JUST in 2012, we have prepared barracks rooms and welcome home gifts for over 5,500 Marines and Sailors in Southern California and Yuma. We've pampered and celebrated over 250 new and expecting mommies. We've served over 70 families in crisis situations with furniture, household goods, gift cards, gas, assistance with bills, lodging, emergency childcare, financial assistance and more. We've provided a day of fun for over 325 children with deployed parents and given their parents on the homefront a needed day of respite. We sent out surprise packages to over 300 families just separated by deployment containing video messages, books and more. We've assisted with over 12 additional unit events, coordinated 8 homecomings, and raised money to lower Marine Corps Balls fees for local units. 2012 wrapped up with Operation Christmas Spirit, which adopted over 100 families(over 600 children) from Pendleton, 29 Palms, Miramar, Ft. Hood, Ft. Benning, Naval Air Station NoCal and a family on recruiting duty; provided raffle prizes and gift cards to 4 different units for their single Marines/Sailors at their Christmas parties; assisted with toys, goody bags and raffle prizes for 4 different unit Christmas parties; assisted with craft tables at a unit Christmas party, and provided Christmas assistance to three different wounded warrior families. It's been a good year. :)
