Causes: Education, Literacy, Remedial Reading & Encouragement
Mission: Working together to ensure that every oakland child learns and loves to read.
Programs: Coalition network: the oakland literacy coalition provides convening and continuous learning opportunities to strengthen the field of literacy providers and amplify their combined impact. Through our network activities, our members and partners have access to high-impact opportunities to learn, collaborate, and champion literacy.
mini grants: the oakland literacy coalition operates mini grants programs through our oakland reads campaign to support public schools, preschools, and nonprofit community-based organizations to host family literacy events and distribute books to young children. 75 grants were awarded in the 2017-18 school year and summer.
community partnerships: the oakland literacy coalition participates in community task forces and collaborative initiatives and supports literacy events and programs spearheaded by partner organizations.
