They proposed, and delivered, a series of educational classes and food demonstrations for WomenCARE's clients (women with a cancer diagnosis). The content was easy to understand, highly educational, and delicious! They responded to the input and requests of participants, while providing the instruction in both English and Spanish! They are highly professional, good at what they do, and easy to work with!

At a time when over a third of low-income children in our county are overweight/obese, putting them at risk for serious and chronic conditions such as Type II diabetes, and schools do not typically offer meaningful nutrition/healthy eating education, it is imperative that the community step in. Nourishing Generations does just that providing interactive classes/programs that include hands-on-cooking skills, nutrition education, information on reading food labels, related games to enhance the learning and fitness activities. Program participants include elementary students and foster youth. The team of chefs, nutrition educators and fitness teachers are passionate about changing poor diets, lack of nutrition understanding and instilling in their students interest and even excitement about making positive steps towards better health for the entire family. What the young students learn finds its way into family discussions and grocery store shopping trips! And the kids have fun while they learn as I have witnessed myself.

This is a great program that teaches kids not only the value of nutritious foods but has them put on aprons, prepare the food, and then sit down and eat it. It is all quite civilized. For young children it is quite the feat. It is a great organization and the meals are delicious. I wholeheartedly support their mission of educating and cooking with these young kids, some who never knew what kale or artichokes were.

Nourishing Generations is a lovely non-profit that has met their goals of bringing wonderful, joyful, highly educated chefs, nutritionists and fitness trainers into schools and community centers such as foster care, pre-natal teenagers, Section 8 housing children and families and others that want this education by engaging children and teens in healthy cooking, healthy eating and healthy moving activities. They offer dynamic, hands on classes and programs for elementary school aged children and teens that encompasses nutrition education, healthy food preparation, culinary skills, and fitness. They are extremely honored with donation from local organic farms for the food that they have the children cook and eat and learn about. NG would greatly appreciate more funding so they can expand into more of the community and feed the needs to those in need. There has been no one who has not fully appreciated what Nourishing Generations has done in the community. The children just love the nutrition classes, cooking and their fitness classes and take what they have learned home and share it with their families.

Nourishing Generations cares about teaching kids how to fuel themselves to be healthy and happy. They have helped numerous children experience foods and dishes they would never have a chance to prepare and eat otherwise. They also focus on the value of an active lifestyle. They take the time to teach the lessons that may seem obvious to many of us, but that we're clearly still struggling to get across. And they do it in the most modest, unpretentious way - they care about kids and throw all the resources they can find at educating them about healthy living and providing healthy living opportunities.

This group runs on the amazing subject matter expertise, passion, and love of its workshop facilitators and the Executive Director. I am so impressed by what Nourishing Generations has been able to do on a shoestring budget, and our plan is to actively pursue grant funding to reach even more kids in our community. I love this group for being truly community-based, out there on local support-a-non-profit nights at breweries and restaurants, out there working with housing representatives to serve their residents, out there working with schools to serve their students. If you haven't gotten to know NG, you should! What could be better than teaching young people life skills regarding cooking, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle? This is the best example of the community helping itself.

I have volunteered and worked with Nourishing Generations off and on for 6 years. The 3 components of this program: nutrition education, cooking and fitness for students/children ages 5-18, and nutrition and cooking for young adults and parents gives hands-on experience that is vitally important in helping youth learn the importance of making and eating fresh, local, seasonal and colorful food to promote life-long health! Students learn knife skills, measuring skills and are introduced to a variety of produce and other healthy ingredients. To listen to them discuss how they 'not like peppers, carrots, or green veggies' and then watch them eat the vegetables on pizza, in quesadillas and in soup is a Joy! They learn to be nutrition sleuths, by reading and analyzing food labels for sugar, total carbohydrate and protein content. They learn the importance of drinking enough water throughout the day and the value and importance of moving their bodies, all while having fun! I have witnessed, on many occasions, this education sink in and have real, relevant and practical meaning when students have the advantage of experiencing classes with Nourishing Generation for 2, 3, and 4 years in a row. The older students begin sharing the information with younger students, from a place of knowledge and ownership, and it is so wonderful to hear and see! The staff and volunteers are very dedicated to keeping this program going and maintaining a level of very high quality.

The name says it all for Nourishing Generations, this is exactly the work they are working so hard towards every year! They have an amazing team of people whose own life and career are dedicated to nutrition and the other important pieces of operating a nonprofit! They love to see the smiles on the children they teach who spread their nutrition, cooking, and physical fitness knowledge and fun to their families as well. They hope to expand to helping all ages, including the elderly in the future and are currently working with teens and women with cancer. I love their mission and am proud to have been a part of helping it grow!

Nourishing Generations is an incredible program, with the ability to make real change for generations to come. The classes have an important impact.

My niece was fortunate to go through the program in elementary school. Years later, she still has her recipes and notes, and raves about the program.

Nourishing Generations provides an essential service for all generations in their fight against childhood diabetes and obesity. They provide the tools to cook healthy meals that taste fantastic.

What Nourishing Generations do is so important to the future of our kids. Imagine they are teaching kids who never knew how to boil eggs or eat real fruits because their parents are too busy and buy fast foods all the time. After they learn from NG, they go home and teach their parents how to make fast healthy foods! They show joy of learning through their eyes and faces. Karen Haralson the executive director is the heart of this non profit and she really has the passion to keep this organization thriving in the community.

When I was recuperating after several brain surgeries due to a brain tumor and infections, I could no longer work and decided what I wanted to do was try and help others by volunteering when I could. Through other volunteer work I met Karen and have been able to help her and her cause by filling in several times as a volunteer. I love that the program really tries to bring the kids together not only to cook and make healthy meals but teach them about better eating habits in a fun way. I see the joy on those kids faces when they can raise their hands and know answers to questions about nutrition. It is great teaching them how to make healthy snacks and meals and how excited they get when they are eating things that they made themselves. I really believe in this program and am happy I get the opportunity to help.

Nourishing Generations -

I have worked w/this group teaching at risk children, young adults and families learn about good nutrition thru teaching them about food & how to prepare it for themselves and their families. There is a great need in this community to know about the best way to care for themselves, their families, the community and the environment. It was wonderful to see the children grow in knowledge and confidence thru this program.

When I think about Nourishing Generations the first thought is Local Home Grown Heros. Theses folks go the extra mile to bring both a hands on and an educational component to our local youth. Working with our local farmers and markets they help educate many diverse groups of people about healthy foods, how to cook with them and why food is important. The dedication and passion from this mostly volunteer group deserves to be recognized and applauded.

Nourishing Generations are a pleasure to partner with. For the past 3 years, they have taught healthy cooking classes for youth aging out of the foster care system who have little experience cooking for themselves. They do an excellent job of getting our youth excited about healthy foods and nutrition. They teach practical skills in a way that is engaging and easy to learn. Every week over the summer, our youth not only learn new life skills from them, but also get to create a delicious meal and enjoy it in a supportive community environment. Chef Karen and Chef Rebecca are not only skillful and amazing teachers, they are also role models and mentors to the foster youth in our community.

I oversee three after school programs. For four years Nourishing Generations has provided "hands-on" cooking experiences and fitness training with real chefs and fitness trainers for our 4th and fifth grade after school students. This amazing group arrive early friday afternoons with all food, utensils, aprons for each student "chef" and table cloths for the finished meal! These students get to taste and prepare locally farm-sourced produce and learn about good health and fitness! Without Nourishing Generations and this amazing afterschool program our students would not have the opportunity to experience locally grown produce and how to prepare it. Rich interactive discussions ensue and parents are also provided with recipes and nutritional information specific to the day's menu. Thank you so much for the ways you enrich our students lives!

Nourishing Generations is changing lives-one bite at a time. This amazing non profit brings chefs, nutritionists and fitness specialists into schools, centers and programs that serve at risk children, teens and families. Nourishing Generations aims to help reverse the rising obesity-diabetes epidemic among children and adults. The way children learn to eat better is to teach them about making healthy choices and to provide them with the skills to make their own healthy food. Visit any Nourishing Generations class and you will see participants chopping, mixing, grating, zesting while making culinary creations that nourish and taste delicious. You will see them jump roping, doing yoga or playing soccer as they move their bodies. It is an honor to serve as a board member for this empowering nonprofit and to witness the transformation that occurs in each of the participants. Nourishing Generations rocks!
