Mission: The promotion of the north carolina arboretum and providing financial and volunteer assistance to the arboretum
Programs: Educational programs - provided outreach and engagement through adult and youth education to promote environmental sustainability awareness and increased science literacy. winter lights program - winter lights is a three-acre nightly walking tour of the nationally known gardens of the arboretum, including its quilt garden and bonsai exhibits. The program has music and entertainment as part of the experience and a model train village for viewing.
membership - offers annual memberships to society members, an annual membership meeting, and special programming for members.
collections & exhibits - the society provided support for the arboretum's maintenance and upkeep of approximately 65 acres of cultivated gardens, including one of the finest, most unique bonsai collections in the united states. The society supported various traveling educational exhibits on loan to the arboretum and onsite exhibits, including exhibits that preserve the unique cultural and natural heritage of the region. In addition, the society has a traveling exhibit called "wicked plants" that showcases some of the world's most diabolical botanicals through thought-provoking entertaining and educational displays. The exhibit is set inside a ramshackle home and creates a portrait of poisonous plants that may be found in your own backyard. It is taken to different museums and universities around the country for several month-long residencies. Guest services - specialized services for visitors including support for the information desks, facility rentals, the wedding program, and the rentals and programming associated with the education center patio. Also, this category includes the rental of the millstone cottage for meetings and conferences. Other exempt purpose accomplishments include completion of a capital campaign for the north carolina arboretum and general public relations related to the arboretum.
