The No Dream Deferred scholarship was founded the day The Dream Act failed to pass. I looked at my classroom and realized that I was tired of losing students. To death.. To poverty. To hopelessness.
Kennedy's words, "If not you, who? If not now, when?" kept running through my mind. I realized that something had to be done and I was the one to do it. With a great deal of help from my friends and colleagues, a nonprofit foundation was created for the purpose of creating an avenue through dreams could be fulfilled. A board of directors was established and criteria established for the process of awarding the scholarship.
Since 2011, ever year the No Dream Deferred, Inc has helped at least one student who was not eligible for grants, scholarship, grants, or loans with state and federal funding begin their college education.
