I have volunteered for New Exodos Inc. for the last four years. We work within the community to benefit those who need our services. I have been an instructor for the Summer Education Program for the last four summers. The program is designed to tutor children who are at-risk. We concentrate on the basic subjects; math, reading, and writing. The students are also exposed to a graphic arts component where they get to learn about Photography, Video, 3D modeling and broadcasting. At the end of the course the students get to take a sample of their work with them. The course is a benefit not only academically but also socially, there are no cliques or groups everyone works together. We accept students as young as first grade all the way to seniors in high school. This year we added an adult workforce development class and camp. All who participated were adults living with mental illness. We taught skills in; resume building, interviewing, budgeting, internet job searches, and employer research. We were also able to provide a week long camp with the same course but set in a relaxing environment where the students enjoyed horseback riding, kayaking, fishing, and recreational activities outside of their everyday lives. The course is designed to help those who have been out of work for a while find gainful employment. We also offered a basketball camp for children with mental illness, we brought children in from rural areas to enjoy a day of basketball. Coach Tony Ronzone of the Dallas Mavericks and Team USA basketball taught the children not only the fundamentals of basketball, but life skills as well. New Exodos strives to serve those who go under served in our communities and is a great organization to be a part of. - Rob L/ Summer Education Program Educator
During my time volunteering , New Exodos does alot of things for our community. New Exodos put together a basketball camp for kids to play and learn with the Dallas Maverick's and team USA Basketball's director. They received a T Shirt , lunch and free basketball at the end of the day on top of learning about basketball and activites associated with basketball. New Exodos also put together a Work Force Development camp for adults. The adults learned basic everyday skills and went camping and spent time outdoors while learning , they also enjoyed fun activities. There was also a summer program for kids. They learned all different subjects and did activities daily and at the end of the camp they recieved awards and backpacks full of school supplies. Just seeing the smiles on the adults and childrens faces was an amazing experience.
