Mission: New beginnings empowers survivors and mobilizes community awareness and action to end domestic violence.
Programs: Transitional housing/home safe program: new beginnings' transition from its transitional housing program to the home safe program was effective april 1, 2017. Combined, these programs supported 27 adult survivors and 46 children with short term housing, intensive wrap-around services, rapid re-housing and flexible financial assistance to promote their safety, healing and independence.
community advocacy program: in 2017, 427 women and men, and 47 children planned for their safety, and made progress in healing and rebuilding their lives through individual advocacy, counseling and support groups in our community advocacy program. 242 domestic violence survivors received information, referrals and support with protection orders, divorce, child custody, immigration and other cases with the assistance of our legal advocates. 52 survivors received mental health counseling through new beginnings' therapist, and 57 survivors received financial assistance to help them overcome obstacles to safety and independence.
shelter program: new beginnings' consolidated its shelter and transitional housing programs into a new home safe program effective april 1, 2017. During the limited time the shelter was in operation in 2017, 9 adult survivors and 9 children received short term housing, planned for their safety, and made progress in rebuilding their lives through the individual and group support provided at shelter.
social change program: in 2017, 3,071 community members increased their knowledge about domestic violence and where to turn for help through our community education and outreach efforts. 735 youth learned about healthy relationships and the warning signs of abuse through our prevention education efforts. 95 community volunteers provided over 1,473 hours of service through involvement in new beginnings' education and outreach programs, survivor support services, events, and organizational governance.
