Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Citizen Participation, Civil Rights, Government & Public Administration, Voter Education & Registration, Voting Rights

Mission: The National Voting Rights Institute is a non-partisan, nonprofit advocacy organization that seeks to make real the promise of American democracy that meaningful political participation and power should be accessible to all, regardless of economic or social status. In pursuit of this goal, NVRI is involved in work across the country to reduce financial barriers to full participation in American democracy - including public funding of campaigns, democracy-enhancement initiatives, and efforts to enhance the voices of the disenfranchised. Founded in 1994, NVRI uses innovative legal and political strategies in the pursuit of this goal. Currently NVRI is leading the national effort - through cases from Vermont and Albuquerque - to have the US Supreme Court reconsider campaign spending limits to help protect the integrity of our electoral process.
