Mission: Narrative is a reader supported nonprofit dedicated to advancing the literary arts in the digital age. We publish work of the highest literary caliber, offer opportunities for both established and emerging writers, host contests in search of a new generation of talent, provide reading and writing mentorship to underserved schools around the globe, and every day, all year we offer our expansive library of thousands of stories, poems, essays, cartoons, and more to readers everywhere for free.
Programs: In fy2016, narrative magazine had 240,000 dedicated subscribers with special and weekly publication of both well-known and emerging writers. All content, including our digital archive of thousands of stories, poems, essays and art, remained free of charge and accessible to all readers with an email and password sign-in. Narrative published 52 poems and 52 stories of the week, held five contests, and published more than 300 artists in 2016, a third of whom were emerging writers.

"narrative in the schools" is another way we reach young people. One aspect of that program is our high school essay contest which reaches thousands of students and their teachers across the globe. Entries in 2016 came from seoul, san francisco, chicago, and were submitted by students in charter, public and independent schools across the globe. This year's prompt "dear america" elicited powerful and keenly observed essays from students about the state of this country.
