I started volunteering for Muddy Paws about a year ago, and have been nothing but grateful for them ever since. The approach they take to adoption is one you don't normally see in a dog rescue. After becoming an adoption counselor a few months ago, I've learned to appreciate the process that Muddy Paws takes to make sure each dog goes to a loving, safe home. They put their dogs safety first and ensure that each and every one is taken care of. Muddy Paws is an amazing organization with incredible values that make them the best nonprofit to volunteer for.
I started volunteering with Muddy Paws back in May 2018, and I can't express how amazing the journey has been so far. From the beginning, the team is by your side, always open to questions and willing to help if you're not sure about something. Other volunteer experiences I've had felt like I'm clocking in and clocking out, but MPR really does feel like a community -- I'm so proud to be / love being a part of it!
I had a great experience at Muddy Paws! We adopted the love of our life, a boxer mix named Goose. The process made us feel supported in our decisions, and we have plenty of resources to continue with.
I adopted my sweet boy Roger (fka Bandit) from Muddy Paws in May 2017 and it was the best decision of my life. They brought him up from a shelter in Alabama and tackled his medical expenses when he was diagnosed with heartworm. They were incredibly supportive with all my questions (and freakouts), providing information and resources. They inspired me to volunteer for them so I can help other dogs find their forever homes. As an adoptions counselor, I have a much better understanding of the tireless efforts that the staff and volunteers put forth in everything done. The dogs stay in loving foster homes until their right person comes along, and no expense is spared in getting them ready - from grooming, to trainers, to ongoing medical care. Muddy Paws is amazing in every way.
We adopted Banjo (FKA Izzy) from Muddy Paws in 2017. We spent months researching different rescue groups and reaching out to a few to apply only to never hear from them or finding the process so disorganized. It was pretty disheartening until we found Muddy Paws. The whole process from applying to be an adopter to finding our Banjo went really smoothly and they were so supportive throughout the whole process. And we love being part of #muddypawspack and always get so excited when we meet fellow muddy paws alums in our neighborhood. I've been so thankful for having Banjo in my life that I wanted to give back to Muddy Paws so became a volunteer with them in late 2018 and we've recently been approved to be a foster as well. They are seriously the best rescue organization!
Having adopted, fostered, and volunteered with muddy paws, I can consistently say they are a tremendous organization!
I am very proud to volunteer with Muddy Paws! Their competent, innovative leaders are committed to running the organization with integrity. Events are organized and volunteers really feel like they can make a difference. There are many opportunities to step into leadership volunteer roles, which, for me, has provided a sense of community and higher purpose. Thank you to the whole team!
We adopted our awesome pup Kiya through Muddy Paws and the experience was great! Highly recommend.
Muddy Paws Rescue is hands down the best organization. I began fostering with them on a whim and pretty soon was fostering a tripod named Spencer. Spencer had been hit by a car and despite already having one hind leg amputated needed an additional surgery on his remaining hind leg. As I fostered him I had the opportunity to watch as the Muddy Paws team worked tirelessly to ensure that he had the best medical care despite the cost. They graciously paid for surgery, medication, rehabilitation and anything else he needed to be the strong and healthy pup they knew he could be. I decided to adopt Spencer and in the last year I have seen the benefit of all the hard work they put in. He is healthy and happy and can outrun any four legged dog out there! My experience was with just one of the many. They have helped countless dogs find their forever homes and through that have helped just as many humans find their best friend. Please consider donating to this amazing organization so they can continue to help more pups like Spencer.
I am a volunteer and donor for Muddy Paws Rescue, and just wanted to share a bit about my experience which might help others when choosing a non-profit dog rescue to adopt, foster, or volunteer with. The volunteer experience has been really rewarding, and every staff and volunteer I've met has been very friendly and helpful. I have tried to apply to volunteer with 3 other rescues/shelters, but they often don't respond to applications, or they just don't offer a lot of hands-on opportunities/events where you can volunteer with the dogs. Muddy Paws usually has 1-2 adoption events every weekend, which has been great for my schedule.
Besides my time, I also choose to donate to Muddy Paws Rescue, because I've seen firsthand how much work everyone (both staff and volunteers) put in to save as many dogs as possible, and to place dogs in the best homes possible. The volunteers at adoption events, and the volunteers who do administrative things behind the scenes have always been responsive. Whenever I've had any questions or concerns, it's always been heard and addressed right away. I personally have only met the most dedicated people involved with the rescue (whether it's staff, foster volunteers, adoptions volunteers, or event volunteers), and am so glad to have found Muddy Paws Rescue.
When I move into a dog-friendly apt, I'll definitely become a Muddy Paws foster and adopter as well!
As a volunteer since November 2017, I’ve witnessed Muddy Paws continued to growth and exposure in the NYC rescue scene as it has strengthened its volunteerbase as well as its core full time team and commitment to securing homes for dogs in need. People WANT to be a part of this team because no other rescue really does it better. The team is wholly devoted and committed to its mission in providing furever homes to dogs in dire need of stability, love and hope and they work hard to ensure that all pups are suited with the best, most conducive home to their well-being and future. I’ve enjoyed not only getting my hands dirty alongside this powerful group of dog lovers, but also getting to hear the many stories of the adopters who are grateful to have worked with such an empathetic and resourceful team of volunteers who helped them find the ultimate addition to their families and have been patient with the many inquiries of owning a new dog. I love this organization so much and feel even more indebted to the team after finally finding my own furry baby, Yuma, just a few months ago. I will continue to praise, encourage and reinforce Muddy Paws as a stellar rescue team to my network as they have been entirely professional and thorough in managing the intricate logistics and internal processes from transporting dogs from our rescue partners to coordinating seamlessly with volunteers and getting the word out ( cleverly and engagingly) on social media to ultimately conveying each dog’s personal needs and matching them with the appropriate fitting human. No one manages the often complicated, overwhelming process of dog adoption better than Muddy Paws!
We had a great experience working with Muddy Paws Rescue when we were adopting Hudson over 2 years ago. But what has impressed me more is their continued, ongoing support. We've had Hudson for 2 years and even still if we have any questions they are so quick to help us. They truly want their fur babies and their familie to be successful. We can't thank Muddy Paws enough for everything they do, and here's a photo of our handsome hound.
My husband and I rescued our first pup Meeko from MuddyPaws! It was the best experience. Rachael and the whole team are so awesome and helpful! They continue to answer all our questions! We have now rescued another pup Roman from them and they are the best of brothers! Highly recommend MuddyPaws Rescue!!!
I adopted a dog from Muddy Paws in September and they have been so supportive and helpful with both issues and concerns as well as forming a community of fosters, adopters, and volunteers. Lila (FKA Betsy Sue) and I struggled a bit at the beginning and Muddy Paws encouraged me to embrace the tough transition, find a trainer, enroll her in daycare, and they gave me ideas and recommendations for how best to adjust to life with Lila. I am confident that without their support, I would not have been able to provide Lila with the right resources for her (thank you for the daycare recommendation!!). I cannot imagine life without her, cuddling by my side, making me smile and laugh, and bringing joy to everyone she meets. They are transparent about their processes, what the adoption fees cover, and provide so many post-adoption resources to help with the transition. I love following other Muddy Paws pups to see them on their journeys, and Muddy Paws provides amazing care to the dogs from rescue through adoption. Lila makes me smile ever time I look at her and I have Muddy Paws to thank for that.
I adopted Molly Luna (fka Rowdy) this past December. Muddy Paws was wonderful throughout the whole process and beyond! Their "pack" has been a wonderful supportive community of fosters, adopters, and Muddy Paws members. I can not be more grateful to them for bringing my beautiful girl into my life!
MuddyPaws is one the most organized and compassionate animal rescue I’ve had the privilege of volunteering and fostering with. They are very transparent with the volunteers, fosters and adopters about health concerns and behavioral needs of each dog that comes into their care. They work so hard to place each and every rescue in the best homes for them. I would recommend this organization to any and everyone
I have been volunteering with MPR for a while and it is truly one of the best run rescues I’ve ever been jnvolved with.
I am currently the president of the board for Muddy Paws Rescue, but before that I was simply a prospective adopter looking for a dog. Muddy Paws was amazingly responsive - rare in the world of animal adoption - and was helpful and honest every step of the way. As I began volunteering for them, I saw first hand how dedicated the volunteers and staff of Muddy Paws are. Everyone is joined with a common desire to help homeless dogs find the very best homes. Muddy Paws uses progressive adoption practices along with specialized technology to provide fosters and adopters with a robust suite of services. But ultimately it's the volunteers that make MPR the great non-profit it is. Their professionalism and dedication are bar none.
My father founded a massive nonprofit organization in my hometown, so needless to say I grew up spending a lot of time within this world. I am now 31 years old and about a year ago I was dying to find an organization I could donate my time to that I was passionate about, it took me one volunteer training session with MUDDY PAWS RESCUE NYC to know I belonged here. I literally walked out of the training session in tears (of joy). I have now been volunteering for a year, 6 months ago I actually quit my corporate full-time job to volunteer full time with MPR because I believe in this pack so much. They treat their staff, volunteers, applicants, adopters, partners, literally anyone they come in contact with like family and as one large TEAM. I could not recommend a better run nonprofit animal rescue group or group of genuine people who want to make a difference in the world.
It is incredible what Muddy Paws Rescue does for dogs! They care so much for each dog individually and do everything they can to get them into loving homes and help them and care for them until they do. They are an amazing place to volunteer! I absolutely love Muddy Paws!
We adopted our adorable young dog, Baby, from here and we couldn't be happier! She is perfect for us!! Everyone at Muddy Paws was very helpful and responded to us quickly. I had reached out to other rescues in the area and none of the other ones responded to my requests to adopt a dog (although one did respond to a request more than 2 weeks late!).
Don't hesitate to rescue from them!! I truly am grateful they helped us find the perfect pet.
We knew we wanted to work with Muddy Paws when they got an influx of Hurricane Harvey pups, and finally had the chance to adopt a dog from them! The entire process was easy and we were well taken care of. They really care about each and every dog even after they have left, which is incredible because they have had so many dogs come through their doors. I’m #muddypawspack for life
Muddy Paws is an AMAZING organization -- we adopted our dog two months ago and it's changed our life in the best way possible.
Every interaction with Muddy Paws was professional and caring -- you can easily see that the Muddy Paws teams wants the best for pets and families. They are quick to respond and answer any questions you have; especially great for folks like me who have never adopted a dog before.
We are so glad we adopted through Muddy Paws; they are doing amazing work, both as an organization and in the lives they are saving - and changing!
I adopted Nyx about two months ago and she is an absolute sweetheart. Muddy Paws was great with checking to make sure Nyx would be a good fit and responding to all my questions after I adopted her.
I own a Toy Australian Shepherd and began thinking he needed a buddy. I took my kids into NYC from NJ and we came upon the rescue van. We fell in love with Carson, a 6 wk old black lab cattle dog mix. He is sweet and playful and smart. He blended into our family immediately. He had ZERO behavioral issues and ZERO health issues. He plays well with my 10 and 12 year old children. We love him so much!
We had the best experience with Muddy Paws and feel incredibly lucky to have adopted Millie. The application process was straightforward, thorough, and quick. Rachael was responsive, communicative and very professional. As first-time pet-owners she prepared us for everything we would need on adoption day and set us up with coupons and recommendations that we've put to good use in our first few months with Millie.
Muddy Paws rescued Millie from a kill shelter in the south. Her paperwork said that someone left her there because she was "unwanted." We can't imagine how anyone could have not wanted this sweet puppy, but we are so thankful that she is in our lives.
Thank you, Rachael and the Muddy Paws crew for all that you do.
Muddy Paws is an amazing organization that deserves help & support across the board. we were so #blessed to find our pup through MPR - they were supportive, communicative, transparent, and truly are advocates for these pups. They believe in finding every pup the RIGHT home, not just ANY home!
We couldn't be more in love with our little guy and highly recommend MPR to all.
We have nothing but great things to say about Muddy Paws. We took our pit/lab puppy home in December, and he is better than we could have ever imagined! Initially, we thought we'd need to work through a breeder for a puppy, before we realized how many dogs (old and young) need homes--there's no reason not to adopt when organizations like Muddy Paws are investing their time and love into saving, relocating and placing dogs of all ages with forever homes in the NY area.
As first time dog parents, the application process was smooth and straightforward. Though we were a little hung up on details at first (what is the breed like, what will their temperament be, should we be concerned about not meeting him first), we were reassured by their sweet description on the Muddy Paws site, the fantastic community of Muddy Paws rescues (check out their Instagram and Facebook), and the positive stories from other adopters.
Because there was a litter of 11 pups and some out of state adopters (like us), Rachael was extremely accommodating to make sure all of her adopters were happy with their match ahead of time (which is not usual protocol and definitely not an easy task!) We were also driving up from Boston on a very snowy day and Rachael eased the stress of our travel delay with her responsiveness and reassurance.
When we got our puppy, he was up to date with his shots, happy, healthy and well adjusted. We even got to meet his foster parents on the way out and get some tips on his training and personality.
You can tell they truly care about every animal they place, plus everything their adopters spend goes back into the health and well being of their rescues (not to mention things like covering transportation costs, operating costs, food, leashes collars etc.) The $500 upfront adoption fee (you get $100 back once your pup is neutered/spayed), was very reasonable, especially given that the money goes towards the future of other rescues and sustaining their mission!
Overall, we would highly recommend Muddy Paws and will be forever grateful for our new companion!
We got our 1.5 yr old Lab mix from Muddy Paws Rescue. Application process was quick and easy compared to other places. Rachel answered all of our questions and we were able to take him home right after meeting him :)
Thank you Muddy Paws!
Everything about our interactions with Muddy Paws has been excellent, and we absolutely love our new pupper Juniper. The application process was quick but thorough - I felt like the team really cared about where each dog was going and was looking out for their best interests, as well as providing exceptional customer service. I got a response within 24 hours, and we met Juniper the following weekend after her medical had been cleared. When we met her and the Muddy Paws team, everyone was very so kind and caring, and also juggling a huge amount of work with grace. We took her home that day, and felt very supported by the Muddy Paws team.
In addition to all of this, I had the pleasure of interacting with the Muddy Paws team again when getting Juniper spayed. MP provides the option to get your dog spayed/neutered with the ASPCA clinic for a MUCH lower price then vets, and Rachael was there to admit the dogs, answer any questions we had, and was there later in the day when the dogs were ready to get picked up. So supportive and caring for animals who have already found their forever homes. Thank you again Muddy Paws. All of the work you do is amazing and means so much to our family!
My wife and I were looking to adopt for about a year, but were reluctant because we have two cats. Rachael was very helpful about getting back to us, even during holiday season and was very direct with letting us know which dogs were available and allowing us to tell her our preference of dog on a litter so that everyone got the one they wanted. Thanks to muddy paws we now have our little buddy Ari, he gets along great with our cats, loves playing in the snow, and we are very happy to have him in our home.
Awesome experience. Quick but thorough, very friendly and clear. And they gave A+ care to Hugo -- that's the most important thing!
We had such a great experience adopting our dog, Sophia (formerly Maggie)! Our application was reviewed promptly and approved, and a few weeks later when reached out about a dog we liked online, we got a quick response from the ED and set up a time to meet her. We really appreciate that Muddy Paws houses its dogs with fosters who get to know each one and can point out personality traits. Sophia was a great match for us, but they have so many wonderful dogs. Highly recommended.
We had a great experience with Muddy Paws! We found our pup, filled out an application, and heard back promptly from Rachael, the executive director. After having submitted applications with other organizations that seemed to go into a void, it was so nice to get prompt responses and clear answers to questions. Sid was an abused dog and very fearful. Rachael updated us on how he was doing and prepared us for his condition. Everyone was kind and helpful when we went to meet him and it was reassuring to know that the people at Muddy Paws were not going to judge us if we thought we could not manage a dog with his background and that, in any case, he would be cared for. However, Sid was the dog for us and we are so happy to have followed through. He's amazing and every day we see new aspects of his personality. We could not be more grateful to have found Sid and gotten him so speedily. Thank you Muddy Paws!

I started volunteering with MuddyPaws Rescue a couple months ago, after happening upon an adoption event during an early fall street fair in NYC. The night before my 2nd volunteer experience, I was browsing their site in order to learn about all of the adoptable dogs I'd be seeing at the event, and instantly fell in love with a bonded pair of cocker spaniels named Bruce and Daisy. Meeting them in person the next day only solidified my interest in making them a part of our family.
The application process was straightforward and conveniently completed online. I learned that I was approved for adoption within 48 hours, and we planned a meet and greet for that Saturday so that boyfriend could meet the pups before we officially decided to take them home. We were also able to get in touch with the foster parents that Bruce and Daisy had been staying with for their first week in NYC, which was incredibly helpful/informative and helped seal the deal for us.
The actual adoption went quickly and smoothly, with Rachael walking us through their medical histories before signing a little paperwork and being on our way! We are so glad to have found Bruce and Daisy, and can't thank MuddyPaws enough for bringing them into our lives!
