The Moreno Valley Friends of the Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that uses all of its resources to help provide educational programs and services to its library members. Last year the FOL donated over $22,000 to the Moreno Valley Public Library for educational video games, Early Literacy Computers, Summer and Fall Reading Programs, and for new books, DVDs, and Research Data Base fees. Most of these funds were earned through the re-sale of donated used books in the FOL Book Nook. The City of Moreno Valley, with a population of 193,000+ is located off the 60 Freeway, just east of Riverside in the area known as the "Inland Empire." Unfortunately, we only have one small library to serve this growing population, and a very small budget from the City. Funds were raised to build a new library, but the City took them for improving the roads, because if they built the library, the City said they wouldn't have any funds left to run the new library. Despite this setback, the Friends of the Library in Moreno Valley continue to do all they can to improve and enrich the current library's educational programs.
