I'm a current OSU-Tulsa student and I had the opportunity to volunteer with the Hispanic student organization for Mitas's 2018 Gala. We learned about how the organization help low income children in Peru. I hope this organization can reach more volunteers and donors so they can help more children in Peru.
Mita's Foundation is a small non-profit with a BIG heart! Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, Mita's impact is felt thousand of miles away in impoverished villages in Peru. Volunteers work tirelessly to raise funds and collect and distribute school and medical supplies for those in need. Please help Mita's accomplish even more by donating your time, talents or treasure to build a school and clinic so that the villagers have hope and opportunities for a better life.
The most amazing thing about MITA's Foundation is its origin. Started by an incredibly dedicated immigrant family with a mission to honor their fallen loved one by continuing her legacy of service. It wasn't started by a rich billionaire or millionaire, it was started in the hearts and minds of those who wanted to share their mother's love for children. MITA's foundation fills a critical need, not only in Peru, but in the United States as well. It teaches young Americans, regardless of their backgrounds, that because we have been so incredibly blessed in this country, we must lead by example. Today it's MITA's, but with the great example of leadership and the "ministry of presence" a blueprint for compassion and service has been created. It teaches a lesson in social awareness and responsibility at a time when many parts of the world might be wondering if this great nation might have forgotten them. Foundations like MITA's reinforce our American identity of caring, of service, of leadership and integrity. By working hard to ensure that children have the most basic building blocks for success, MITA's Foundation helps to inspire greater leadership, not only in the United States, but also among the Peruvian population. It shows them how to come together, organize a community around an issue, mobilize and problem solve. In short, it teaches us all to be better human beings and stop looking at the world through a lens of "us against them" and teaches us that we have a shared identity, regardless of where we were born. It brings to mind this wonderful African concept of Ubuntu, "Yo soy porque tu eres..."
I am Patricia Stafford and I have had the chance to volunteer at Mitas Foundation.
It was a great experience and the team was very well organized. I am sure Mita will make a change since it has a great purpose on education, health and happiness for needy kids.
Thanks Mita for giving me the opportunity of being part of your team.
