My first Mini Mutt was a senior dog named Millie who sadly had a lot of health issues. Wjhenever I had a question or problem, the Mini Muts president and other volunteers were always available to answer questions and assist me along the way. When time came that Miss Millie died in my arms at my Veterinarian's cliinic, I knew I couldnd't stand to go on without adopting another--and Mini Mutts was at my side the whole time helping me with adopting Miss Josie who was heartworm positive. I especially appreciate that the rescue president was by my side when I needed help or guidance with anything regarding these dogs. After Miss Josie's heartworm treatments cleared up, I adopted Miss Abby to be a companion pup for Miss Josie. Mini Mutts has been a rescue for a lot of years and I trust their judgement when they say something may be harmful for the dogs. And I know that some of their rules were learned the hard way at the dogs' expense. Mini Mutts does a great job of placing dogs in safe places where they can live their best lives.

Extremely rude and unprofessional. I have only ever rescued my dogs over the years and have never been declined simply because I do not own my home. My spouse owns the home. I don’t understand why this is an issue?

I feel sorry for the pets. You know pet rescues qualify for tax breaks, and many times have municipal funded money. That being said after my experience I wonder just why this company is in business. I wanted to rescue a baby not get aggravated by them and petfinders. I’ll wait and adopt from the ASPCA at Christmas time at the North Park Mall as I’ve done in the past. Sorry Jett (Sterling) I so wanted to rescue you.

I tried to adopt from this organization.
But I had no a good experience. I understand why rescue organizations have to be extremely careful with the placement of their rescued dogs. In fact, I welcome it as there are so many animals abused by humans. But I do not welcome people that try to give me the way around”. It almost like they operate with some type of hidden agenda.

I should have reviewed them before I started to work with them. But I fell in love with 2 of their listed dogs and started the process immediately. When I started to read other people reviews I realized several histories were similar to mine. Anyhow, I am happy to report that we just adopted 3 gorgeous puppy- pugs from a reputable pug rescue organization. But I feel sad that mini-mutts simply have denied 2 of their dogs the chance of their forever home with us, very responsible and loving couple. And that is the main reason I have decided to publicly review them. I hope that they take this review as a positive criticism and make some adjustments to their philosophies and processes for the benefits of the dogs under their care.

Whoever handles their email is very rude. We submitted an application for a dog they allegedly had in foster care. When they finally got back to us, they denied us stating a reason "per the posting". However, their postings for the dog on Facebook and PetFinder conflicted with the reason they claimed. Instead of admitting that either we were not disqualified for the reason they stated or updating the postings to reflect the actual requirements, they were dismissive and accused us of demanding an exception, which, of course, we were not.. I hope some of the positive experiences posted on this site are real and true, but I have doubts. I would suggest anyone thinking about working with MIniMutts Animal Rescue, seek a different organization or at least read all the comments posted here. While reading the positive ones, consider the similarities amongst many of them and contemplate the posisibility that they were fabricated. Good luck.

Disagree with them on a FB post and you get this -

we do not welcome negative and mean comments.

it takes bad person, like you, to call us names when we are doing good things for animals

and thank goodness there will be laws in place to protect dogs from the horrors of you.
we do not care about your opinion. and your name is added to a national Do not Adopt list now.

Thank you!

I adopted my little girl last June (2020). I know that Heidi (owner of “MiniMutts of Grand Prairie”) has a special love of all animals and will do everything to ensure that a prospective owner will be a good match! And, Tinnelle (my pup’s foster) is also a great lover of animals, and did a superb job of caring for my pup, reviewing my application and then bringing my dog to me for a trial! This is a great dog shelter helping all their pups find forever homes!

This woman Told me I was ‘perfect’ for a dog I picked out on her site. My 15 year old baby died 6 months ago and we were finally ready to love another baby. So perfect, they said, Just fill out this THIRTEEEN PAGE app, along with vet records, proof of Heartworm medication, enough info for a top security clearance!! Then? Nothing. For days and days. I’d text, and she’d answer how ‘busy’ she was. After 3 weeks, I finally went to the email that I had saved when I put the application in. I hit that link and lo and behold there was MY baby...ADOPTED. When I texted her she would NOT say ANYTHING except I hadn’t PROVEN Heartworm medication for my previous dog! Whut??? I did!! Invoice and even pictures of the 2 boxes I still have after my 15 year old baby had passed. Then I found out she had adopted this dog out from underneath me TEN FULL DAYS before. I had bought a new dog bed, toys, food... and she knew for TEN dang days. I texted four times in that ten days and she kept me hanging. I think it’s possible someone closer to her side of the two city sprawl showed an interest; or a friend.
Also! The pet adoption fee when I picked this baby was $250, and the site said the new owners paid $300. Do these pets just go to the highest bidder?! All I can say more is that I hope these people show more maturity, professionalism, and common decency for their foster dogs than they do human beings. Broke my heart, lied, strung me along and when I was angry and wrote a letter, they sent an insulting note saying I ‘just didn’t have the qualifications’. Ha. I RAN MY OWN RESCUE! My pets die of old age. Don’t trust these people with your private info... who knows what these un professionals do with it after they ditch you. I have NEVER been so deliberately pooped on. Cried for two days. Do not do business with them.

Not only did they reply rudely, they also assumed because we live on a 135 acre ranch that the dog we were interested in was going to be left outside. Maybe instead of assuming they could of asked more in depth questions.

Thank you mini mutts for helping this sweet kitty! He wouldnt have made it with out you guys.. This baby was found in a ally dragging his back legs trying to get into a storm drain. A sweet lady was able to trap him and reached out to mini mutts for help. They gave this baby the fighting chance he so deserved. Unfortunately his leg was unable to be saved so mini mutts raised the money and got his leg amputated. He is doing amazing!! Yall are angels..

I'm another person refused adoption. Now after reading the reviews here I am afraid I have been scamed. I was foolish and gave them my driver's license number so they could make sure I haven't been convinced of animal abuse. And pictures of our fenced in yard. Thank goodness we have a security system or I would be worried about break-in

Heidi started this non profit and I have never met anyone so devoted to helping these unwanted animals. All of us working with Mini Mutts are all volunteers and have such love and passion for these unwanted dogs/cats. Most of these dogs have come from some deplorable conditions so placing these dogs for adoption is most critical for their second chance at a happy life. This is why potential adopters are screened thoroughly for placing these dogs in a home that will be a fur-ever home. I have adopted a mother/daughter who in dog language have expressed their gratitude with all their kisses for giving them a second chance for a loving home,

We just adopted two beautiful poodles named Alexis and Bella from Mini Mutts. We searched Petfinder and after reviewing this outstanding rescue organization knew that this was the rescue that we wanted to adopt from. Although the adoption process is extensive, it was worth every bit of questions, attachments, etc., that was requested as we know that there is so much fraud going on now in rescues/adoption. Heidi, Dana and Kristi have been amazing to get to know and work with and we look forward to supporting this rescue for many years to come! Rest assured that Mini Mutts will support you throughout the adoption process and only wants the VERY BEST for the dogs that they rescue. If you are not selected, then simply request a review of your submitted paperwork for feedback so that you can fulfill the expectations of this amazing organization.

I absolutly love this rescue! They choose adopters not on the adopters needs and wants but on the individual dogs needs! I love their adoption process, it shows that they really care about the wellbeing of their animals. I adopted my kitty from them years ago. She was basically dying from being attacked by another animal. They gave her the best care and she made it through. She is now 4 years old and doing great! Thank you mini mutts for saving her. She has brought us so much joy..

They are the absolutely best!!! Have rescued so many fur babies!! Has the heart the size of Texas! Does home checks, and only adopts out to the best homes!!! I fostered for them and I donate periodically. I’ve seen many tears for the pups that are least likely to be adopted. But with their big hearts and vet checks, everyone gets a safe and loving forever home.

To all those being super critical- until you’re in a situation where you’re fostering and helping vet adoption apps, you’re not really in a position to judge. These dogs are unique and deserve the effort it takes to find the RIGHT family. Most of them cannot handle little kids pulling on them or big dogs. I’m a foster with a one year old who totally approves of kids being raised with animals but it’s hard keeping a baby away from a dog that was previously abused or keeping a dog away from a baby to avoid accidental injuries. there have been multiple times when I said “I’ve had it” and unless you know how to handle the dogs and kids in those situations and move on, it’s not a good fit. I understand the resentment and animosity about the rules, but my best advice if you have kids- get bigger dogs, they are way more tolerant. My moms boxer and pit let my son do whatever and love it. Our littles- not so much. And our application is already lengthy as y’all complain about- we cannot possibly start getting into details about everyone’s individual parenting styles which is the reason for the 5 and up rule. As for dog size- I had a friend with a super friendly and gentle Bernese mt dog who accidentally killed their Maltese when they were playing after years of living together. Accidents happen- we aren’t saying there aren’t perfectly happy situations when bigs and littles live together but we do not want the liability or risk to our dogs. It’s our rescue, we determine the rules. End of. Go elsewhere if you don’t like it. And lastly, the complaint about lifestyles. I spend sometimes months fostering a particular dog and getting to know it’s quirks and behaviors, likes and dislikes. If I say it needs a companion, there’s a reason. I had a dog once that literally cried without our other dogs around. And another that wanted to be left alone and I recommended a home with no animals or other independent docile small dogs. It’s for a reason. And if I get a bad vibe like the situation is not a good fit, you better believe that as a foster I’m going to take the dog and end things. We are looking out for the dogs best interest. I’ve yet to have a foster be returned because of a bad fit and there are other rescues where this is a HUGE problem because they don’t vet adopters hard enough. So again, We literally do not sit in our homes making up random rules to hurt peoples feelings. We have jobs, dude.

I can’t express the love I have for this rescue. The process of adopting thru them is not hard if you are already a “responsible” pet parent. If you have or have had pets already then you should have vet & vet records on hand. What is so hard to have your pets on heart worm preventions or UTD on shots?? There are many rescues that require the same things and also require strict home checks.

Thank you MMAR for all that you do. Ignore the negatives and continue to place pets in the RIGHT homes!

Very disappointed with Mini Mutts Animal Rescue in Grand Prairie, TX. . They require a lot of personal information including drivers license of both my husband and me. They have you fill out a 10 page questionnaire and was told that the application was good. Once they got all the personal information I never responded back. I feel this a scam to get peoples personal information and they should be investigated. And to think I was going to donate money as well. I will have a hard time believing any other nonprofit organization. My husband and I are big into adopting pets and has done so all our lives so far.

I was inquiring about a great dog from PetFinder that was a wonderful fit and they "loved" my application and thought we would be a great fit as well but because I don't have proof of heart worm treatment for the past two years of dogs I had over two years ago that have since passed, I can not adopt from them. They wanted the last two years of the vet records from when they were alive but my vet destroys records after pets pass. I sent them every invoice from the vet I had, though I didn't have them all. Not a lot of people have invoices from almost three years ago that goes back to adoption. I had more than the average person would keep after their pet passes. I couldn't remember the name or where the medication was purchased, so too bad for a loving home to be able to adopt a pet from them. I'm grateful for my phone calendar and reminders from doctors/vets as I can not remember things well. Their lose but unfortunately it the lose of a well deserved pet to a good home. I should have read reviews before wasting my time, which was a lot of time getting everything they wanted.

Love love love Mini Mutts! I have adopted two of my three dogs through the rescue. I regularly share all available pups on social media and make the suggestion to check mini mutts when looking for a pet or if I run across anyone who unfortunately needs to find their fur baby a new home. They do amazing things for dogs who are hurt or at risk through no fault of their own and are very deserving of your support!

My husband and I only have rescue animals and two of our four current "children" were adopted through mini mutts. The team at Mini Mutts is very professional and they state clearly that the search for adopters for each animal is based on the quality of the match, not first come. As a professional recruiter I understand the importance of making the right fit and I have actually been steered towards the two dogs we have adopted though I inquired about others because the personalities would better mesh with our existing animals and they do! We love our mini mutts!

This rescue helps out so many dogs that have been failed by owners. They are limited in resources which means they can not make it happen if the person lives to far away. They do their best for the animal. They look at the background of previous Animal care for anyone adopting to make sure the pets are not failed again. Above everything they protect the animals.
They do not just move animals. If you want to make it better foster or volunteer. They have their own experience that they draw on to not place really small dogs with small children. If the pet gets hurt it can cost the rescue thousands. I love the senior for seniors program and feel more seniors could take advantage of this program. Ask about it for yourself, or a senior family member. These are people all volunteers that do not profit. They do it for their love of animals. We need to lift them up. How many dogs could you transport to vet visits to help out? Be a part of the solution to our people problem with pets. The best candidate for a dog will get the home visit to make sure it works. Please offer to foster and save a dog!
The have a Facebook page with the dogs listed for foster and adoption.
It's so nice to see a rescue full of people who care.

It has truely been a honor to volunteer for Mini Mutts Animal rescue. I have seen them work day and night to help many neglected, abused and abandoned animals. I am a foster fail times 2! I adopted my foster kitten whom was found at only 7 weeks old clinging to life after being attacked by another animal. They stepped in and gave her the best care possible and never gave up on her. My second foster fail was a mangled mess. She was so severely matted she had to be sedated and shaved to her skin, covered with infection and yeast. I see so many come in with their spirits broken, then weeks or even months later, leave to their new forever homes full of hope... Thank you mini mutts for all you do.

I have volunteered, fostered and adopted from this group. Yes the application is not short, but I understand the reason for each question. Yes their standards are high, but after what most of these dogs have gone through, don't they deserve the best? These people are passionate about their cause and their dogs. What I like is that you get so much information about each dog. The dogs are fully vetted and come to your home looking amazing! The other thing I like is that they are always there to help or give advice. I would highly recommend this group. Anyone that has posted something negative was not approved and now has sour grapes. If you are an amazing pet owner, you will be approved!

I have been working with Mini-Mutts as a foster mom, adoptive mom, and all around volunteer for a year now. I can honestly say that I researched which rescue I wanted to help and hands down this rescue was the best. They truly believe in no dog left behind. They take in severe medical cases where others won’t. They rescue from the streets, the shelters, and even owners that can’t or won’t take care of their dogs. They are very selective in who is approved foster and adopters to ensure the dogs are going to the perfect home for them. Every dime this rescue receives goes to the needs of the dogs. This is truly a working village in making as many dogs lives better in every way possible. I will continue to support this group in whatever capacity they need. these ladies, and everyday we are glad we did! For Heidi and Toni to do this, on top of balancing their jobs and families, is a testament to their diligence in their mission. They are truly passionate about the dogs they rescue and commit to making sure the owners applying are the absolute best fit. This organization is professional, coordinated, and very prompt in dealing with prospective adopters. I was very happy to adopt and donate, and had an overall amazing experience in "doing business". I quote this, because the whole process never felt like a transaction...it felt like we were being advised on how to best grow our dog family.

They are very caring, respectful, and hard nosed when it comes to their rescues. I appreciate that they do a strict background check, home visit, and a one week visit before allowing an adoption to go through. I have known the founders and managing partners of Mini-Mutts for a long time. We have fostered and adopted several rescues through them and it has always been a positive experience. To those who are frustrated at having been turned down, please inderstand that there was a very good reason. For example, I have a friend who lives hours outside of the dfw area - initially it was offputting to both of us when we learned she would be turned down for a Mini-Mutt based solely on her location (I know she would be an excellent adopter); however, on introspection, I realized it is because Mini-Mutts feels a great responsibility for the animals for which they are advocates. If you are not in reasonable distance, if anything goes south, they are unable to assist - and they have relationships with dfw area vets who would also not be able to assist. This can be a great risk if the person adopting has no resources. This is just one example - EVERY placement decision is in the best interest of the animals. Their post-placement follow-up and ongoing interest is comforting, and it shows how important it is to Mini-Mutts to make the best decisions they can to place animals appropriately based on whatever information they have. I have watched them spend weeks and tons of money caring for some sweet furbaby in need and the only compensation being the usual adoption fee (which is so minimal for the lengths they go to to make sure the animals arehealthy enough to be adopted before releasing, are spayed or neutered, and are up to date on shots, etc). Whenever we are ready to add to our brood, we always turn to Mini-Mutts!

I have volunteered with this rescue for a year. I’ve also fostered for them and adopted from them. They are the most concerned group of people who care so much for the animals they work so hard to save. They take many medical cases that other rescues won’t. They have also on many occasions helped pay for medical bills for people that can’t afford it. Their goal is to provide any animal the best care possible, whether they have rescued it or or just helping someone else out. I highly recommend Mini Mutts Animal Rescue if you are looking to adopt a dog or cat in the DFW area. Their standards are high because they’ve poured so much into saving these animals.

Yes, the application process is lengthy but for good reason, you wouldn't want to give a child to just anyone and fur babies are no different. Heidi and Toni are wonderful to work with. We adopted a long hair daschund almost 2 yrs ago. Shortly after adopting him we found out he had some medical issues that were going to be life threatening. Heidi stepped in and offered to have him looked over by their vet for a second opinion. Our Ruger got the help he needed and we had almost 2 wonderful years with him before he suddenly passed away. I have adopted 2 dogs and fostered several more for this organization. I have seen first hand the lengths they will go to in order to save a dog and place it in an appropriate home. I have adopted and fostered 2 dogs who required amputation, a pregnant mama who ended up delivering 9 puppies, as well as several other “code red” dogs who were hours from euthanasia. Mini mutts has a detailed application process in order to insure these previously abused and neglected dogs go to safe homes that “fit.” Not every person qualifies. That doesn’t make it a bad rescue...it makes it a good one.

I've had the pleasure of working with Mini-Mutts Animal Rescue for well over a year now. My wife started following their efforts on social media after a friend recommended them to us. Once we started to see all the dogs that needed help, it touched our hearts. We reached out to them and let them know that we would love to help but unfortunately, I'm allergic to dogs and cats. We have to have dogs that don't shed which makes it hard for us to help. We let them know we were interested in a hypoallergenic female and shortly after we reached out to them we heard a story of a puppy mill that had a runt with uneven legs and they were leaving it in a box on the side of a road in the heat of the summer. They said if someone didn't pick it up they would take it in the back and shoot it. Toni reached out to us and told us the story of what happened and mention that she was driving a couple hours away to save her and shortly after she was ours. We went through their very thorough vetting process and appreciated that they made sure our fence was secure, that we had the means to care for the dog, and that the dog would work well with our pups. The home visit was welcomed and the adoption fees were beyond fair.

Fast forward, we have now done some events with Mini-Mutts to help raise money and find homes for the dogs. We also help to foster pups for them when we can (because of my allergies). My wife now helps with the home visits and they are strict to ensure that the animal is going to be safe. Like with everything, the irresponsible people ruin it for everyone and force Mini-Mutts to turn away applicants for various reasons. Sometimes these denials seem unfair and unjust but the rules and disqualifiers are in place because someone at some time had the same situation and something happened. They can't let the same thing happen twice and they have been around enough to know when they have to say no. The primary purpose of the rescue is to save the animals, and they can't do that unless they have someone to adopt them. They also can't fund the rescue without the help from adoption fees. It's a very difficult decision to have to make and sometimes its made with little context and that's why there is so much paperwork. They try their best and we have had friends get turned down for various reason and it stinks, but someone has to live with that decision and lay their head down at night knowing that nothing is going to happen to the animals they adopt out. Toni and Hiedi do an amazing job of putting the animals ahead of their emotions. I can assure you that this is not about the money, they have vet bills to prove it. Their goal is to save dogs from EU and they do a wonderful job of doing just that.

Thank you for all you do and for giving us one of the greatest gifts we've ever had, our baby Lyla.

My experience was amazing. I started following Mini Mutts Animal Rescue and donating before I adopted my match. Toni one of the owners of mini mutts helped me find my sweet angel saved from a really bad situation in Paris, Tx. Lyla has been with me over a year now and is thriving with her two brothers, also rescues.
I have been such a huge fan of the two owners Heidi and Toni that I do anything I can to help support because it takes a village.
I’m now on my 2nd foster dog for mini mutts! My husband and I have 3 of our own and try to always have a foster too.
Lyla has been such a blessing to our family, as well as Mini Mutts Animal Rescue for driving to Paris to save her.

Mini Mutts takes their job seriously by providing these animals with people who are going to be reliable caretakers! Everything this non profit does is in the best interest of the animal. The woman who runs Mini Mutts is one of the most caring and sweet ladies I have ever met. Would recommend this nonprofit.

Several problems with them. 1) Their application is lengthy (10 pages), very detailed, and required personal info (including driver's license and photos of my home) that had to be e-mailed to someone I'd never met or spoken to, for a dog I'd only seen pictures of and wasn't sure yet that I'd actually want. 2) They required me to provide all this to them on the computer without talking to a real person, making me wonder if it was a scam. 3) They dealt very dishonestly and hypocritically with me and don't seem to care how they treat people because their only concern is that their ridiculously high standards be met. After I jumped thru all their hoops, was told I was approved, and scheduled delivery of the dog, then late at night the day before I was supposed to get the dog, I received an e-mail saying they changed their mind because my lifestyle is too busy and active. They said my busy schedule made it difficult to deliver the dog, when in fact I sat at home for 2 days while they rescheduled delivery due to their busy schedule. This accusation came from someone who's never met me, knows next to nothing about my lifestyle, and was apparently too busy to bring the dog to me as promised. All that said, I still don't know for sure that they are who they say they are and that the dog I wanted to adopt actually exists since I only saw a few photos which could have come from anywhere. The whole thing could have been a scam to get my person info. So, anyone wanting to adopt a dog through Mini Mutts should know that the deal can be canceled on a whim at any time, so don't count on anything until you have actual possession of the dog, and good luck making that happen!

Very disappointed with the professionalism of this organization. I emailed inquiring about a Lhasa apso I saw on pet finder.com. I stressed my concern with the person I was emailing thatI was under 21 years of age and I knew that was a requirement for a lot of rescue groups and adoption centers. The response I received (from whom I believe is the person in charge of this nonprofit) was "not a match" and "lol", and went on to speculate thing about my personal life without giving me the opportunity to submit an application for review. She said that because I was 20 years old, I was going to have a baby soon and the pet could not be live with small children. She also said that she was looking for an older person that has "emptied the nest", even though her post was not clear on these specific requirements, and upon further research of mini mutts animal rescue, the minim age to adopt a pet through them is 18. Overall, not impressed and very disappointed at the level of professionalism and courtesy offered (or not offered) by this person.
