Results: Over 12,000 youth have been educated on the warning signs for depression and provided the tools for obtaining help. 755 lonely and isolated seniors have been provided companionship and purpose that enabled them to remain in their community longer. Our HelpLine has provided information and referrals to nearly 15,000 individuals.
Target demographics: improve the mental health of our community
Direct beneficiaries per year: 4,878 individuals through our HelpLine, 1,724 youth with suicide prevention eduation services, 155 seniors provided companionship and support, and 1222 adults provided awareness and education about mental wellness.
Geographic areas served: the City of Fredericksburg and the Counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford
Programs: Senior visitors: the senior visitors program promotes independence and health for older adults allowing them to live at home longer while staying connected to their community. The program matches socially isolated senior citizens with trained volunteers who provide weekly, home-based visits.
Suicide prevention education: the suicide prevention education program empowers middle and high school students with the ability to identify the signs and symptoms of suicide and depression and what they can do to get help. The curriculum used is signs of suicide (sos), developed by screening for mental health, inc.
Helpline: assists individuals in navigating the mental health care system to identify appropriate services, resources, and supports.
Support groups- assist youth and adults in developing skills and strategies to better manage their mental health, to promote mental wellness, and to provide support during the journey.
