I recently volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels. My wish to give back to the community. Not only has it helped my well being, the joy I see on the faces of the clients as I deliver the meals and, spend a few minutes to talk with each and everyone.
Lydia Shopski is doing a marvelous job of the Niagara Falls Meals on Wheels. Dedicated and compassionate in her work to make sure the meals are prepared and delivered.
I was a volunteer working in the office and ended up being an employee. When my health declined I had to leave (a very sad day for me indeed). But I had many friends who still worked or volunteered there and ended up not only on the Board of Directors but the President of the Board. I also signed up for meals and was pleasantly surprised. The food is delicious and meets all nutrition guidelines. I have been working closely (from afar) with the organization during this crisis. All their efforts have been towards serving the clients and keeping them safe, along with all the volunteers that make this program run. With only 3 paid employees the program relies heavily on volunteers both in the kitchen and especially with delivery of meals. They amaze me every day! To keep spirits up they gave each client a roll of toliet paper, which may sound so minor but it was so reassuring to our clients. They decorated Easter eggs for the clients.
I have belonged to other non-profit groups before but never have I been so proud to be associated with a group as I am with Meals on Wheels of Niagara Falls.
There are many Meals on Wheels programs out there but most are funded through county, state or federal funds. MOW of NF receives none of this funding and relies on customer payments and donations to sustain the program.
I encourage you to call the program and see for yourself - you won't be disappointed!!
