Matthews Playhouse has provided an amazing environment for my children to experience theatre and always provides a warm and welcoming culture where everyone is part of the creative process. Their level of professionalism, experience and kindness is unmatched and I am proud to be part of their community.
I highly recommend Matthews Playhouse for its top-notch shows and dedication to our community. They offer excellent education programs for all ages, with scholarships to ensure no child is turned away. They also support other local nonprofits by donating a portion of net proceeds from "Pay What You Can" performances, making sure everyone can enjoy their shows, regardless of financial situation.

Matthews Playhouse has given me my life back. Yes, that sounds dramatic, but hear me out. I was well into my 40s and I had given up completely on the idea that I could ever be a performer as an adult. Theatre had been a very important part of my life as a child and into my adulthood, until I abruptly decided to call it quits in my 20's so I can focus on a "real job" and be a "responsible adult". I spent most of my adulthood feeling like something important was missing in my life, and it caused a great deal of anxiety and pain.
In 2017, I finally got the courage to try to do something about it. I went to an audition at Matthews Playhouse expecting nothing, I walked out with the lead role. The director took a chance on me, and it changed everything. I no longer deny myself the joy of doing what makes me happy. I am so grateful for what this organization has done for me, that I have involved myself in numerous capacities. Through the years, I have watched other adults and many children discover themselves and gain confidence, make new friends, and find a safe, wonderful space where they can let go of other people's expectations and embrace who they really are inside.
Words cannot describe how profound that is for a young teenager looking for a place to fit in, or for an adult in their 40's who had all but given up on themselves. It's impossible to quantify the amount of laughter and tears that have come from the audiences through the years. Matthews Playhouse is the heart and soul of this community, and in an era where the arts are under siege- it's refreshing there's still a place where people can share their stories, gain new skills and learn from other people’s experiences.
Matthews Playhouse is such a lovely place. They truly work hard to make everyone feel invited and to make quality theatre accessible to the Charlotte Matthews community. Love love LOVEEE them
I’ve been involved with Matthews Playhouse for the past five years and seen such a dramatic growth and mission for positivity in our community and look forward to all that they plan to do in the future. Such a great theatre!
