This ministry to the homeless and poor of the Wyoming Valley is a much needed organization. In just the short few years they have been here thousands of hot meals, clothing, hygiene, and educational services have been give out completely for free. Numerous lives have also been able to leave the homeless/poor life behind by becoming educated or by help overcoming their addictions. At least two individuals have gone to college and graduated this year from the resident program they run to clean up the lives of men in our area. The WVRM motto is to "Help the hurting in Jesus Name." Daily the WVRM is doing this. By meeting spiritual, physical, social, and mental needs of those who visit or enter the Residential Program.
My youth group recently had the opportunity to volunteer for a "work night" at the WVRM. We were given a tour of the building and a short explination of what goes on during the week and weekend. Our teens and leaders were moved by the work they are doing. It was amazing to give our group a close up look at somethign that seems so far away for them. Most of our students/leaders come from estabilshed homes where food and shelter would never enter their minds. Our "tour guide" did a wonderful job explaining why they are doing what they are doing. They are inspired by God to minster to the homeless and poverty stricken people of the Wyoming Valley. They are reaching not only people that fit into that category, but people on the "other side" as well. Our group was inspired to be helping out in our home t own right here where people are hurting. We moved from seeing people that are homeless and hurting being a "foreign" thing to seeing it in our back yard.
The WVRM keeps the gospel at the center of their outreach ministry. I have been volunteering since they moved to the new building in Sherman Hills and it is a much needed ministry in this valley. The love that the staff and residents show to all people that come through the doors is quite apparent. The WVRM has also mobilized local churches in the area to be involved in true outreach as commanded by Scripture. Gods Blessings all around.
I have had the privilege in the last year volunteering with my church, and I have been blessed by being a part of the ministry there. I can see the tremendous care and concern the staff at this rescue mission has for the less fortunate in the community. I also have seen the difference they have made in the lives of those they have help through difficult times in their lives.
I have had the joy of volunteering at Scranton Rescue Mission with my church. I love this outreach, and have seen its impact on the needy that come. I love that they minister not only to the adults, but to the children that come: meeting physical needs, but encouraging the spirits of the downtrodden as well. The administrators of this charity are serious about their work, have a great deal of compassion for others, and are above reproach in the way they use donations. Well worthy of donations of time, effort and money.
