Curiosity and Risk Taking We encourage our students to take calculated risks, experience success and failure, and learn how to create opportunities from both.
Tradition and Innovation We respect our past and, with a commitment to lifelong learning, value and act upon new ideas that advance our educational process and student outcomes.
Collaboration We create mutually beneficial relationships with and for our students, including partnerships with industry, other non-profits, and government agencies.
Community and Inclusivity We believe that diverse backgrounds and viewpoints create a richer educational experience.
Respect, Honesty and Trust We place integrity and authenticity at the forefront of our philosophy. We believe in the highest levels of professional and ethical standards that allow us to build the positive relationships at the core of our work.
Results: IYRS is a world-class experiential school with a core education model dedicated to teaching highly technical and deeply craft-oriented career skills. IYRS currently has four accredited programs: Boatbuilding and Restoration, Marine Systems, Digital Manufacturing and Fabrication, and Composites Technology. The skills acquired in these programs are transferrable to other industries and applications. With the campus in Newport, RI, IYRS offers an extraordinarily attractive location to study.
IYRS School of Technology & Trades is accredited by The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) which is listed by the United States Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
Additionally, IYRS is approved by the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education.
We are proud to report that more than 85% of students have job placements upon graduation. To hear student stories go to www.iyrs.org/videos
Target demographics: There is no such thing as a typical IYRS student. We have an international student body made up of men and women from all walks of life, and our students have a wide age-range: from recent High School graduates, to adults in mid-career looking to change their livelihoods and their lives.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 125 students, 100+ Industry Members
Geographic areas served: Because IYRS students come from around the globe and from all walks of life, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to what each student needs during his or her time at the school. Our students benefit from one-on-one support during the admissions process, during their time at IYRS as they sort through their options for financial aid and scholarships and housing, and as they formulate their educational goals and work with our staff to parlay those goals into meaningful careers.
Programs: Boatbuilding and Restoration; Marine Systems; Digital Manufacturing & Fabrication; Composites Technology.
Our training programs prepare students to handle every challenge the marine industry may hold, and IYRS students benefit from an education that immerses them in problem solving, teamwork, project management, hands-on skills, and a culture of craftsmanship. Our curricula, faculty, and location are key to the success of the school and our students.
