Causes: Health, Nerve, Muscle & Bone Diseases Research
Mission: To create a forum for clinicians, basic scientists & bioengineers involved with neuromodulation through a combination of scientific meetings, journal and interactive website (complete mission statement on schedule o)
Programs: The society produces a peer-reviewed, scientific journal, neuromodulation: technology at the neural interface, which is indexed by the national library of medicine in medline / pubmed and is published eight times a year. Neuromodulation is the preeminent journal in the area of neuromodulation, providing our readership with the state of the art clinical, translational and basic science research in our field and representing the needs of the broad neuromodulation community. Please see schedule o for details for clinicians, engineers, scientists and members of the biotechnology industry alike, neuromodulation provides timely and rigorously peer reviewed articles on the technology, science and clinical application of devices that interface with the nervous system to treat disease and improve function. Neuromodulation covers an ever expanding field including pain, headache, movement disorders, spasticity, paralysis, psychiatric disorders, cognitive disorders, epilepsy, sensory deprivation, gastric dysfunction, obesity, incontinence and systemic disease. The journal represents the practice of a growing, diverse multidisciplinary field responsible for the development and application of devices and techniques to benefit patients by normalizing function and reducing suffering. In depth reviews, original articles, national and international meeting abstracts, special focus editions and web based educational offerings help the reader to expand their knowledge and understanding of the interface between electrical stimulation, chemical neuromodulation, the nervous system and the patient. Our updates on past and future news of events and activities of the ins and its membership keep the reader abreast of issues related to professional education and development.
other ins programs to promote interdisciplinary studies and further educational efforts in the field of neuromodulation through scientific meetings and quarterly newsletters.
the international neuromodulation society organizes its biennial world congresses with the aim of bringing together an international community of professionals from multiple disciplines, who would not otherwise meet, to learn about the broad spectrum of neuromodulation science and therapies. The ins's mission is to promote and disseminate the science, education, practice and accessibility of all aspects of neuromodulation. This multidisciplinary society believes that all scientists, clinicians, bioengineers, professions allied to medicine, and industry partners who have a specialist interest in neuromodulation, can and should work with this society to share science and encourage best practice for the good of humanity. (please see schedule o for details) therefore, this conference will appeal to and educate the diverse population of anticipated attendees (neurosurgeons, neurologists, anesthesiologists, physiatrists, cardiologists, urologists, basic scientists, biomedical engineers, and industry representatives) from around the globe and provide a unique forum for discourse. Amongst some specialists outside of the neuromodulation community, there is a general lack of awareness and/or skepticism of the technology and therapies available to their patients and the ins strives to educate the uninitiated and dispel any misinformation about the existence and effectiveness of neuromodulation to treat movement disorders, psychiatric disorders, chronic pain, angina, peripheral vascular disease, bladder dysfunction and gastrointestinal / colorectal dysfunction, etc. It is therefore incumbent upon our society to bridge the gaps between specialties and continents, to educate and enable exchange of this scientific information and, ultimately, to provide the tools needed to improve patient care.
