I am a life long trekker, and have been involved in many charitable groups during my life however it wasn't until I met the crew of the U.S.S. Challenger in Cleveland, OH that I understood how fulfilling and fun charitable work can be. To be involved with such wonderful, like-minded people in a pursuit to make this planet a better place is an experience that can not be matched. We have joined together not only out of love for our world, but out of love for the Star Trek Universe. I, with a small group of people, have since created the U.S.S. Unity in Columbus, OH. We are focusing on causes such as children and family and feel that we have the beginnings to help make a great impact. Russ Haslage has worked to keep the scifi culture alive in Columbus by purchasing Starbase Columbus when it was in danger of closing and putting it under the protection of the Federation. The Federation's latest project is the Galileo, a relief shuttle which is stocked with food and supplies and ready to go to any area in need. I am proud to be a member of the Federation and I encourage all, whether you are a fan of Star Trek or not, to look into this organization and see how fun caring about this planet and your fellow man can be.
