Mission: The Institute for Family Development is dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth and families through the development, provision, evaluation, and dissemination of high quality, cost-effective, community based services and support. Our program models emphasize accessibility, responsiveness, and engaging clients as our partners. Families are served in their own homes and neighborhoods, in a culturally appropriate manner, with services tailored to their needs.
Target demographics: Children at risk of state-funded placement into foster, group or residential care and their families.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 2,077 families in Washington State
Geographic areas served: We provide direct services statewide in Washington; we provide training and consultation in the Homebuilders model of Intensive Family Preservation Services worldwide.
Programs: Using multiple proven therapeutic approaches, ifd provided in-home family counseling services and life skills services to 1879 families having children at risk of placement into state custody. In delivering these services, ifd used $252. 380 in government pass through funds and private donation funds to alleviate basic family needs for food, shelter and clothing as well as assisting with school related needs (see schedule i).
ifd staff trained 1,775 employees of various governmental social service agencies and employees of private social service providers on family preservation and related topics. The training staff performed 26 additional consultation visits to training customers. In addition to the us activities, ifd delivered training and consultation in australia.
