Mission: Ideas Beyond Borders (IBB), founded in 2017 by Faisal Saeed Al Mutar, develops and implements international programs to equip individuals and communities across the Middle East with the information, skills, and resources to improve their societies on their own terms. We make available ideas that foster critical thinking, human rights, and democracy while also identifying, vetting, and supporting projects and individuals bringing to life a modern, pluralistic Middle East.

Direct beneficiaries per year: reached over 8.9 million with our House of Wisdom 2.0, 119 business initiatives, 350 students, 53 teachers, and 60 team-members, comprised of editors, translators, etc.

Programs: - House of Wisdom 2.0: The largest independent pro-liberty multimedia content platform in the region, providing an extensive array of original videos, podcasts, and a rich assortment of translated books and articles. This empowers Arab youth with the knowledge often suppressed and censored by authoritarian regimes. This online community is laying the groundwork for individuals to retain their cultural identities while challenging the status quo, to bring to life a modern, pluralistic Middle East led by the people of the region. - Innovation Hub Inspired by Tyler Cowen’s Emergent Ventures, we identify, vet, and support projects and individuals with the power to transform their societies for the better. We equip entrepreneurs and changemakers with the resources they need to prosper. -Underground Schools In Afghanistan We’re working with local partners in the country to fund secret underground schools to counter this oppression and help girls get the vital education they need. Between 2021 and December 2023, 8,007 students were enrolled in two covert schools supported by Ideas Beyond Borders, with 4,615 enrolled just this year. More than 53 teachers imparted education in 38 secret locations, covering 20 subjects. Led by local educators, the Underground Schools initiative offers students access to facilities, educational resources, and a secure environment to pursue their high school education. Other programs include: --Stopping the Spread a digital public health education campaign to counter authoritarian disinformation that was costing lives -- Global Conversations Our Facebook discussion forum where we engage more than three million people and counting. We curate content specifically designed to spark lively, spirited discussion on controversial topics – from innovative technologies to people fighting for free speech around the globe. -- University of Mosul Project to rebuild ISIS-Destroyed libraries --University Student Translation Program to develop the translation, professional, and leadership skills of Middle-Eastern youth committed to our House of Wisdom 2.0 values.
