Mission: Icca foundation's mission is fostering the peaceful resolution of international disputes through arbitration, conciliation and other forms of international dispute resolution.
Programs: Publications -in 2016, icca published the following publications:- volume xli of the icca yearbook on commercial arbitration, reporting on over 100 arbitral awards and court judgments applying the main arbitration conventions- five supplements to the international handbook on commercial arbitration- all icca publications are published in the online arbitration database www. Kluwerarbitration. Com- icca also published: a) volume no. 3 of the icca reports series (the report of the icca-asil task force on issue conflicts in investor-state arbitration) b) the 5th edition of the icca membership directory c) volumes 11, 12 and 13 of the icca newsletter d) translations of icca's guide to the interpretation of the 1958 new york convention into vietnamese, serbian and hebrew.
icca research and outreach projects -during 2016, icca's project work continued as follows:a. The icca-university of tsinghua working group on chinese arbitral practice provided expert advice on chinese arbitration law and practice to students, government and the judiciary;b. The icca-asil (american society of international law) joint task force on issue conflict completed its work, publishing its final report in may 2016 as icca reports series no. 3. The final report was distributed to all delegates attending the may 2016 icca mauritius congress. C. Icca joint task force with queen mary, university of london held two meetings of task force members in london, and circulated draft reports among task force members. D. Icca held six new york convention roadshows (colloquia for national court judges on the application of the 1958 new york convention) in the following jurisdictions: i. Cairo, egypt (21 may 2016), co-hosted with the cairo regional centre for international commercial arbitration, and attended by 56 egyptian judges and public prosecutors. Ii. Washington, dc (19 august 2016), in cooperation with the nafta 2022 committee, attended by the co-chairs and members of the nafta 2022 committee. Iii. Serbia (12 october 2016), at the yearly meeting of the serbian judiciary in vrnjacka banja, in southern serbia; attended by about forty serbian judges. Iv. Sao paulo, brazil (18 october 2016), meeting with representatives of the judiciary and judges-in-training of the magistrates school. V. Dubai (december 2016), presentation of the arabic translation of the nyc guide and discussion the role of the judiciary in arbitration with six dubai judges. Vi. Quito, ecuador (23 february 2016), attended by attended by some 35 ecuadoran judges. During 2016, icca launched 2 new projects:a. A working group on african arbitral practice, which seeks to increase coordination and cooperation among african arbitral initiatives in the areas of access to resources, education and training, and the provision of technical assistance;b. A joint icca-asil task force on damages in international arbitration, seeking to develop a technical and analytical damages tool for use by arbitration practitioners.
icca congresses (held once every two years) -icca hosted its 23rd international arbitration congress in mauritius on 8-11 may 2016. The congress was attended by 845 arbitration practitioners, judges, academics and students, and explored the theme "arbitration and the rule of law: contribution and conformity". Approximately 340 african nationals attended the congress at discounted rates, many from countries on the united nations list of least developed countries.
other:young icca - during 2016, icca's branch for young practitioners, young icca, held 15 one-day skills training workshops for young practitioners, involving approximately 40 attendees per workshop (i. E. , total approximately 600 attendees). The young icca mentoring programme mentored approximately 70 young arbitration practitioners. Membership
