Unfortunately, despite the laudable mission to save dogs, this shelter' policies are deceptive. They do not include in either the Intent to Adopt form or Adoption Agreement that they require mandatory tattooing for all animals during spaying and neutering.
Adopters are told AFTER they sign the contract that their pet will be permanently marked with a green line. They say it will be "tiny" but the tattoo is made very visible across the dog's abdomen. They communicate this information in the last line of the surgery scheduling email that arrives weeks after adoption, just a few days before the procedure.
They also require microchipping, and they register the dog in their own name, even though you are the owner.
Be aware of these policies before you travel for the meet and greet where you are on the spot to adopt the dog and sign the contract. This shelter does not allow you to use your own vet for spay/neuter or decide if your dog needs permanent marking.
I too was rejected by Husky House after applying for a dog. I have had several German Shepards (and a Keeshond and Belgian Malinois) and am familiar with the large active breeds. I am willing to do whatever is required, including installing a perimeter fence and go to training and socialization at St Huberts. I do NOT give up on my dogs and would never even THINK of abandoning one.
I was willing to take a dog that was turned in by her owners for "difficulties" but nonetheless I was rejected without ever having had a conversation with anyone from Husky House. They gave no reason, but as I am almost 60, after looking at the reviews I can guess why.
You know we older people are more stable than most, and some of us are quite active. I live in a wooded area and have a superb summer home on a large waterfront area where she would've been able to swim and play with other dogs to her heart's content. I guess that wasn't good enough for their "Board of Directors".
I just hope the dog I applied for found a good, loving home.
I DO NOT recommend Husky House for adoptions. Go somewhere that will treat you like a friend to animals.
Got denied for a puppy when my family has fostered well over 50 dogs for AFEW animal rescue their board of directors denied my application without even having a conversation with me. Just took my 10$ and that was it. Never again. Not to mention I’ve heard horror stories of them taking people dogs away after years. Terrible organization.
I have submitted an application to Husky House twice in the last few months and both times denied because the Board of Directors felt I did not meet their criteria. Both times I asked what the criteria was and was not given an answer. They do not even have the common decency to respond either by email, text or phone.
My husband and I have previously owned 4 Siberian Huskies over the years, 2 of which have been rescues. Needless to say, we are experienced and responsible husky owners. We are retired, so we are home every day and have the time and love to give one of these rescues.
Looking at pictures of the adopters on HH website, it appears adopters are given to relatively younger families. That being said, it appears my age is a factor. Without following up on references, or house visit or even a phone call to ask questions, I would consider this age discrimination! This rescue does not care about finding a good, loving home for the animals. Shame on them!!!!!!
Horrible place. There are much better places to adopt a Husky from. The people sitting on the "Board" don't know what they are talking about. For the "Board" to deny my application for a Husky pup because they said how a pup (a few months old) could escape from my fenced in yard but would be willing to set me up with a Husky that is 1 year or older is just ignorant. Never have I heard of such "logic" before. This was told to me after loosing 3 different pups I wanted to adopt and after I spent time and money to fix the areas, "they" felt a puppy could escape from.....I guess pups can now flatten themselves out, like mice can do, to fit through a very small opening. I've own high content wolf dogs for well over 20 years, plus other domesticated dogs as well, since I was a kid. Never once had I ever had a pup of a few months old escape from my yard. Unacceptable and ignorant is all I could say. Save yourself the time, money and aggravation by going to another place that rescues dogs who really know what they are talking about. Maybe another facility should rescue the dogs from the Husky House, for they are the real victims here....poor animals.
They make up lies about dogs and refuse to offer any proof. If you ask questions on their social media that they don't think it's on their favor, they block you and delete it. Lot of shady things happening in this rescue.
Adopted our pandemic puppy #freelily for 3 months before she was stolen from us by HH. My wife dropped off Lily to get fixed and that was the last time we ever saw her. They claim that we were unfit. So they stole our dog, stole our $450 and then re adoptwd Lily for another $450. A b oid this place.
I submitted an application a week ago and received no response. I followed up today and got an email back saying I was denied without citing any criteria. I have been a responsible pet owner my entire life and am really angry that they would deny me without checking my references or talking to me.
I filled out application to adopt a Siberian Husky named Tennyson. I had a Siberian Huky for 14 years And had to put her down because of cancer, I thought is was time to get another Husky, I love the breed . I summited the application with my $10.00 donation I was sent back the following after 1 day

Dear Applicant
We have completed the review of your application and it has not met the criteria set forth by the Board of Directors.
Therefore, the application is denied. We hope you continue to support local animal rescue.
Regards,
Husky House Board of Directors
No one called my veterinary or reference. I own my home with a 6' vinyl fence around the property. I inquire why but no response the only reason I can think of they think I am to old 66.??? ( I am active I walk at least 4 mile a day I enter 5 k races . I have done Sprint Triathlon
last year) I think Tennyson would have been a good fit , but what do I know

This “rescue” steals animals after they are placed in their loving forever homes. They take your $400 and say it’s a “deposit” for fostering. Never in my whole life have I ever heard about you paying to foster an animal for a rescue. This leaves the family heart broken, and the dog. DO NOT ADOPT FROM THIS PLACE.
So I adopted Rusty from HH on April 13 2018. Into 3 months later I decided I was going to rescue another yorkie named Kayla so I signed the form she had to get neutered I would keep her for 2 days and then return her for the procedure. I had my behavorial/pet sitting person pick her up Lorraine and staff refused to give her back. I left worked early to go get Kayla and Lorraine told me that she was not giving her to me and that I could either take the cash or she would send me a check. I was so angry. So these rescue places know lots of people apparently was told that Lorraine is crazy and has done this before to other adopters. Its a shame I did call the Health Dept. and hope that conduct a through investigation into what is going on in that place.
I have adopted three dogs from Husky House. Yes they are thorough in their screening process but for good reason. If you had to deal with what they do in a daily basis with people abandoning, abusing, hoarding animals you would be thorough and picky also. Not to mention the people who take on the responsibility of pets but as soon as they have to pay for unexpected vet care they walk away. Thank god for people like Lorraine and Husky House!
I need Rugby 3414 to PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP...I can not give my name because I have the same type of situation going on and hope I can have her arrested. If you somehow can let me know how to contact you we can do this together to get our pets back. She is doing very unethical things down there and NOBODY checks on these people....It is unbelievable...I hope I can help you get Zoey back too...... i had a yellow lab that swollowed a river rock and it was stuck in his intesines and i had to take may dog to emergency center because it was a holidy weeken and the surgery was $1500 these too are running a scam and need to be stopped!
I am very disappointed by husky house. I am the owner or was of zoey the puppy now available for adoption. We took her to the Happy tails vet in shrewsbury, nj and discovered she had accidentally ate a small sock. We paid over 2000.00 dollars for her and loved and cared for her up to date with the vet. When we went in discovering that she was acting not her self upon an xray. We were told she needed surgery, at the price of 6,000.00. After consulting with my husband at 8.00 am in the morning we could not find the money so soon. I was told by the vet she would die by the end of the day if she was not operated on. We tried everything but could not come up with 6,000.00 plus more by the end of the day. We loved her so very much as all the neighbors and family would agree. The only option the vet gave us was to surrender her and the surgery would be provided and she would be transported and eventially released to husky house in monmouth county. I see her profile everyday for a good forever home. She had one with us. Now she is sitting waiting to be adopted. When asked if we could work out a payment plan for her surgery we were told we could not have her back because we couldnt afford our dog. The vet at Happy tails told us dogs are a luxury that we cant afford. Zoey was well loved fed and current with her shots, she even went to puppy classes and the beach. When I called Husky House they said they would not tell us any more about her and if I went with a 6,000.00 check to the vet we could have her back. So good luck to anyone who is trying to adopt a dog from here. I see her pictures everyday and hope she gets a great home.
There are not many rescues around I can say I am totally turned off with and refuse to endorse as far as their foster work but Husky House is definitely one of them. They fail to live up to any formidable standards as far as trying to find homes for these dogs as they never return communication on their available dogs and blow off repeated requests for information on their rescues. When I see a dog that is being offered through husky house I feel it is almost a death sentence for them as there is no way they would be adopted with the current participation of Husky house. I've even heard of similar experiences through various people who have tried to use their services.
I hate posting this as I don't want to harm any potential adoption of the rescues that are offer but anyone who tries to adopt through their service all I can say is, good luck and keep your options open.
My story is quite the same as others. I had met this rescue group eating dinner one night. After talking a bit they informed me they were from Husky House . I had a husky for 14 years and she had passed away . I loved her very much. Make a long story short with this part one of the ladies stated she was picking up a puppy showed me a pic and asked if i was interested. I said yes I would love to meet her. After communications back and forth Sunday that same week she stated that the dog was not being surrendered and she was sorry and would keep me in mind for another one. First off I was not looking for a puppy or another dog it was just presented to me . I though my baby was trying to come back to me. Also I just looked for a puppy siberian and the dog they told me that was not adoptable is on Pet finders. Whatever. anyway the week before last I was out side with my friend talking and a lady with a puppy was walking it looked like a brown siberian . Of course I wanted to pet the pup. My friend said I know her and she called her over and this was one of the ladies that I ate dinner with from Husky House. She stated that they have a 5 month old dog and she wanted to know if I was interested in seeing her. I said yes . Fast forward a bit. i went to see her and feel in love with the baby pup. They stated that I have to have cash and they wanted to come over for a home visit. That same day they came over introduced the pup to my other dogs ( 2 labs) rescues as well. Everything was great and they said do you want us to leave her here or do you want to pick up the baby tomorrow . I said the next day because she said she need her shots and so on. perfect I will pick her up after she goes to the doctor. I reached out to them the following day and no response . I called another individual who scheduled the home visit and she hung up on me 2 times. I had individuals that know the owner and got the owners # called and spoke to her . Explained the whole story and she said she would get back to me NOTHING yet. I found out through a friend that the dog is sick and should not be adopted out and is a large vet bill waiting to happen. Then why show her? Why is she on her site to be adopted? Why not call me to talk about this ? Why did she go threw another individual and not show any type of professionalism as a dog lover business owner or as a human being? I am baffled ! After speaking about my problem to other individuals around the area . They have all stated one thing or another that this place dosen't have a very good reputation. After hearing story after story I am glad I didn't move forward with this group. But I do have to say they should be ashamed its about the animal getting a good home . I have tried to keep individuals name out of the equation which was hard but my personal opinion I would not bother.
I went through the entire process of submitting a lengthy application in the hopes of adopting a dog here. After a successful house visit I was approved for a pup. I wasn't given much notice to come pick up the pup but took a day off from work at short notice anyway and drove nearly an hour to meet with Lorraine. I believe she's the owner. That was when things fell apart.
The owner refused to release the dog saying that my entire family needed to be there. I mentioned that it would be difficult for both my husband and I to take off work and take our kids off school just to come pick up a dog on such short notice. I made the attempt only because they threatened to give the pup to some other applicant if I didn't come the next day. I also wasn't told that the entire family needed to come pick up the dog so was very disappointed to come away empty handed.
I told Lorraine I can come the next day with the entire family but she gave a noncommittal response about holding the pup for me. Lo and behold, after trying to reach out about rescheduling, I haven't heard from anyone. I can only interpret Lorraine's refusal to release the dog to me as something other than my entire family being there.... I have great credentials and can provide a loving home for the dog but apparently that isn't enough for her.
Lorraine, may be compassionate toward dogs but she is a cold and judgmental person who lacks compassion for others. I will not be recommending anyone to adopt from this shelter.
The "board of directors" of this rescue is completely uncompassionate and obviously doesn't have the ability to place dogs in proper homes. I am a veterinary nurse w/ 25 years of experience. I've had dogs my entire life and currently have 2 med/lg size dogs. We are a loving/active family, rarely out of the house for more than 4-6 hrs at at time. I applied to adopt a golden retr pup just prior to Christmas. After filling out the lengthy application and not hearing from anyone for over a week I sent several emails to the rescue. I was finally contacted by a screener for the rescue who although very nice was very intense. (The last rescue I adopted from, after hearing I was an experienced icu/emergency tech, obviously understood that I am a responsible pet owner and immed approved my application). This place made me feel like I had to sell my soul to the devil just for them to consider me! When I heard back from the screener, she said that I was approved pending the home visit and that in my case they would wave the kennel visit(where we would have to bring the entire family including pets to meet the pup!) and the home visit person would bring the pup w/ her.
This is now a few days prior to Christmas and so now we were planning on Peanut being part of our Christmas! The very next day the screener called me to tell me that the board changed their mind because we were a fully enclosed house and they are concerned about Peanut's barking!
#1 we are not fully enclosed - our house is on the end of a row and we have a large yard.
#2 The fact that we are in a row home was on the LENGHTY application and I discussed it with the screener
#3 Someone is almost always home and we have the 2 other dogs so the barking would not likely be a problem as well as the fact that we mostly everyone in our neighborhood has dogs
#4 Given the fact that I have been counseling owners on their pets behavior most of my life, you would think that I would be an ideal candidate to have a dog with a barking problem since I have the expertise to deal with it!
Either this rescue has no idea what they are doing or they chose to let someone with ties to the rescue have the dog and used the row home thing as a reason to not give us Peanut. Either way this rescue is irresponsible and inadequate. The only positive thing was that the screener was kind enough to call me because the "board" just sent a cold email after changing their minds. Oh and then they said 'but your application is approved is you want a different one of our dogs.." No thank you - never again Husky House!
I filled out their application , home check, then they became very unresponsive to me . Will not tell me what the issue was. I went out of my way to accomidate their stipulations,, so I am confused to why they won't tell me their reason for rejecting me. I am an experienced dog lover, responsible, and own a home and have a huge fenced in yard.
Really sad--they're completely unresponsive. I tried to adopt and they wouldn't tell me why I didn't meet their guidelines. Really, they are not doing a responsible job choosing homes in the over-zealousness. I'd find an organization that is considerate enough to at least speak to possible adopting applicants. I find their practices questionable and would not donate any money to them. They seem to raise a lot of money, but I don't even know if the dog exists because no one returns my calls.

I am a "foster failure" for Husky House of New Jersey, meaning I took two of their dogs to foster and fell so totally in love that I ended up adopting them.
Great organization, they work incredibly hard and step of for some of the most difficult cases, injured dogs, seniors. Both of my Huskies are seniors (one 10, one 11) who had been on the euthanasia list at NYC shelters.
I plan for Husky House of New Jersey and it's canine associates to be in my life for the rest of my life.
