Programs: Modern day slavery - in calendar year 2014, humanity uniteds program service regarding modern-day slavery fell into four main categories of activity. First, humanity united continued to focus on building the u. S. Anti-slavery movement by facilitating collaboration among u. S. -based organizations working on this issue. Humanity united facilitated regular meetings of a broad range of organizations to work collectively on several projects as the alliance to end slavery and trafficking (atest). In addition to convening and managing the coalition, humanity united also provided financial support to all coalition members. Second, humanity united continued to develop and advance our anti-slavery strategy and to engage in grant making, advocacy and communications to promote greater corporate engagement in addressing forced labor in multinational supply chains. Emphasis of the work focused on the continued exploitation of labor deep in the supply chains of commodities such as seafood and palm oil. Humanity united also continued its work in nepal, through direct engagement and grant making, with a particular emphasis on eradicating slavery in nepals brick kilns and by reducing the risks for nepalese migrant workers who emigrate to the persian gulf countries. global solutions - in 2014, humanity united continued to work to help build global institutions able to respond swiftly, effectively and without compromise whenever the threat of mass atrocities arises, as well as create the requisite will to ensure that policymakers do not simply default and do nothing. Hus global solutions grant making strategy sought to bring together the normative framework, the institutions and the global movement necessary to create real and durable change.
sudan/south sudan/democratic republic of congo (drc) - in 2014, humanity uniteds program service in sudan/south sudan/drc focused on efforts to continue to spur the engagement of the international community in promoting peaceful change in the region. Humanity united continued developing the capacity of local institutions in order to improve good governance, journalism, and civil society in the newly independent country of southern sudan, while at the same time supporting efforts to help parties in northern and southern sudan fully implement the comprehensive peace agreement and resolve other outstanding issues between the two countries. Humanity united also focused increased attention on conflict resolution related to the civil war in south sudan. Humanity uniteds grant making in drc supported efforts to: understand the dynamics between various armed groups; develop means to prevent the exploitation of conflict minerals; advance international and national justice mechanisms; and explore new efforts intended to reduce land conflict in the eastern congo.
