Mission: The HLCS was formed in 1990 in reaction to the realization that this icon of the West was disappearing across the Texas landscape. Our purpose is to document and publicize the values and conservation needs of horned lizards, to promote horned lizard conservation projects and to assist with horned lizard management initiatives throughout their ranges. HLCS seeks to accomplish this mission through education and research. We currently have chapters in Oklahoma, Texas, and Southern California. Other Chapters are forming in New Mexico, Nevada and Utah. HLCS supports research efforts by giving grants and member field trips. Educational efforts are directed toward schools, landowners and the general public through many public events.
